Confused about CA response to DV - will they really delete?

What did you say when you called them? Did you ask for any kind of confirmation that it would not reappear anywhere? Had you also received a letter like the one above?

I didn't receive a letter from them (and still haven't). I told them that the collection had disappeared from my credit reports and that I wanted to pay it before it reappeared. They told me it might show back up when they updated their system to paid and I asked them not to report the update. There were no promises made by them, but I had to have it paid if I want to buy a house.

All they need to do is remove your account from their media.
