Credit Score issues

Hi Guys, 

Thinking I could hide from student loans I completely screwed up my credit. Finally taking charged I'm paying them back and on the road to recovery. I recently applied for a Walmart store card and received an email stating my credit score was 430 ( horrible I know) I just checked with FICO and it says I have a 655. Has anyone had this issue before?

They use some crazy algorithm that can only be explained via rocket scientists and an abacus. I was also given some 450? Something Walmart score with their denial or credit offer.

They most have their own scoring. Have you tried applying for a secured card first?

Thanks guys! I already have a Bank Of America Platinum and a just recently received a Cap One secured card. Just checked my 3 scored and all are in the mid 600's.
