I filed a dispute with equifax on 5 TL's. Would this make my score drop? I received an alert last night that my score dropped 10 points.
When an account is in dispute, certain aspects of it are omitted for scoring.
I had a 6 yr old Collection that had the comment "consumer disputes" just gave me trouble. I wrote EQ trying to get this comment off because its been 2 times now that they come back saying its been verified but they keep leaving the comment. So this time I sent a certified letter and informed them the dispute was verified for them to please take the comment off. Well they put in another dispute and my score dropped today by 13pts as well. Even though this was a 6 year old collection account.
How is yours going now? Still low or did it rise back up?
A dispute on a 3rd party collections or a public record should never impact your score. These are not taken out of any scoring aspect.
If they are/have been something was done incorrectly along the way.
My dispute says pending. Its expected date is 2/11/2013
The same thing happened to me yesterday with EQ. I disputed 2 collection accounts and my score dropped 36 points...WOW. I spoke with their rep and he explained that once you initiate a dispute, it is no longer a factor in your score. He did say that the score should improve once the disputes are completed, but I don't believe that.
