Equifax Medical CA - Pay or Wait?

Hi again everyone,

After so much knowledge and help from you all and finally receiving my tax return from Uncle Sam today I have now started the process of being a responsible adult by paying off these collections and even got a few PFD's! Even though I'd much rather be headed to a foreign country and spend my tax money living like a king, I have to admit that it definitely feels good to pay some of this BS off for good. Aside from that I have a question about this CA only reporting on Equifax, 4 Medicals from the same people. It looks like they may be old enough to fall off my CR this year, but I did not see a fall off date like other bureaus, I only saw a "First Delinquency Date". Would this be the starting date or is it the "Date Reported"? Another thing to mention is that they are willing to do a PFD for a grand total of $250ish, not an issue for me atm.

Delinquent accounts  will fall off no later than 7.5 years after DOFD (usually at 7 year mark).

In your case, that's next year.

If you can afford to pay it, do it and be done.

Re: Equifax Medical CA - Pay or Wait?

Since yours are so old I would start with 4.

Medical collections are some of the easiest to get removed from your CRs, here are the steps that you should follow to address them:

1. Call the OC and see if insurance can be billed, (or-rebilled), collections ultimately paid by insurance get removed per new rules that came from CRAs settlement with 22 state AGs. If not then
2. see if you qualify for Charity Care, if not then
3.  ask that they recall the collection in exchange for full payment
4. Send the reporting CA a PFD offer
5. Google the HIPAA Process and contact its creator for help, this process cannot be discussed in any forum of myFico.
