Re: Help getting Comcast or ERC of my credit report

Thank you very much for helping a Noobie out! and for taking the time to explain!  I will try to send ERC a GW letter, and I'll borrow your suggestion in the post above.

just out of curiosity, when I log in to CreditKarma now and look at this "account" it says open, on it still and it was last updated on March 3rd.

That should go over to being closed when it gets updated again right?

Yes,  it should update to reflect 'closed' and with a $0 balance.    When did you pay it?  It can take 30-45 days for a collection agency to update after payment.

Re: Help getting Comcast or ERC of my credit report

It said under the error message it could be because of:

the information I entered does not match their records

or

You are still new and have not established a credit history yet.

It has to be the last one.

I have tried to log back in to discover Credit scorecard but nothing happens when I push the "login" button.

Re: Help getting Comcast or ERC of my credit report

Ok --

You need at least 6 months of credit history to even generate a FICO score.  So do you have absolutely no other accounts (credit / loans) that are older than 6 months?

Re: Help getting Comcast or ERC of my credit report

In the USA I have absolutely no other Credit accounts or loans.

I have 1 Simple bank account Debit-card and one CapitalOne360 Debit bank account And a Marcus by Goldman Sachs savings account. that's it.

the only other "account" I had was this ERC account that I did not recognize

Re: Help getting Comcast or ERC of my credit report

Gotcha.    Ok.  So you are not going to get a FICO score until you actually have something reporting to the credit bureaus.   Bank Checking / Savings account don't get reported, so they don't count.     So once you do acquire credit /  loan(s) and gain 6 months of reporting the bureaus, you'll be able to pull your FICO scores.

Sorry -- I didn't realize you were THAT new.

Re: Help getting Comcast or ERC of my credit report

Comcast/ERC is probably the easisest to get removed. If you are able to PIF, do so with Comcast. Wait 3-5 days and dispute the ERC from your credit reports. I have had to do this a couple of times because of new accounts being created everytime I move. It was very simple and I didn't have to go through any hoops. I just simply went into my local Comcast office and PIF.

@NorseViking wrote:

Hi,  I'm fairly new in the USA and have not had any credit here.

My back story made short:

I have moved around the country because of my job.  I just recently downloaded creditkarma to check my credit score and to see what kind of options I have to apply for a credit card.  To my surprise, I had a degratory (I think this was the word they used) mark on it from an old Comcast bill.

#1 I can never remember having had a Comcast subscription.

#2 I have never lived at the address that the bill was reported from.

I tried to dispute this transaction but to be able to report it as fraud I would have to come up with proof that I had never lived there. this was back in 2015. I only keep my receipts and for 12 months. and I did not have a letter or anything that proved that I never lived at that address.

Since I'm not used to the USA credit system which is ass-backward compared to what I'm used to. I paid the $108 I supposedly owed, thinking this would take it off my report.

Come to find out it has not been removed.

What can I do to get them to remove it?

reading on the forum here, I have heard about the GoodWill letters, but I have no idea how to write one.

am I supposed to send it to Comcast or ERC?

Since I have already paid it, I don't have that Negotiation leverage, is there something else I can do/use?

Can anyone please advice me on what to do, as I would like to start building credit and getting this bad credit off my report since I have no Idea what it was.

If you have a GoodWill letter you have had success with and is from sort of the same situation I'm in, would you mind sharing how you wrote it?

Thank you for any and all helpful inputs in advanced.

I recently received a settlement offer from ERC and replied to them with a PFD letter, I do not have their address with me at the moment but can send it to you when I get home if you like.
