How much info for a GW letter?

I'm trying to get a ton of lates removed from my BoA mortgage and CapOne Auto accounts.  What I'm wondering is how much 'personal' information I should put in my GW letters as to why I was late?

My story - first my husband loses 50% of his income during the recession.  Better than being unemployed, I guess.  But the thing that really hurt us was my daughter's brain/skull tumor.  One night she wakes us up in the middle of the night because half of her face has gone paralyzed.  Off to the hospital we go where we're told she must have surgery right away or could die.  After the surgery, they tell us this tumor is super rare (she was actually written up in medical documents because of the rarity) and we have to see specialists (out of town of course) to remove the rest - they debulked what they could.  It's again a case where we can't wait because this tumor has an enzyme that eats bone and has eaten through her skull, herniated her brain, damaged her facial nerve, and made her deaf on that side.  More bills, more doctors, and loads of costs because it's out of town (e.g. hotel, etc),. and she's onto surgery number two.  She recovers for about a couple of months and they have her back in surgery again to try and get the rest.  At this point, we are barely above water financially but hanging on.  We receive the good news she is stable but many, many doctors appointments, scans, etc for the next few years.  She's had five or six small surgeries since but not the biggie ones like before.  That's not including the many PT specialists, hearing specialists, etc to deal with the after effects of her tumor.  All told, about 2-3 years we were struggling financially from this.  By the way, she's fine now and in college and only has to be checked once a year.

So, I didn't declare bankruptcy, paid off the car, and didn't let the house go into foreclosure (worse was 90 day lates).  Mortgage was sold right after this and have been on time ever since - about two years now.  Do I include this much detail in my GW letters or just reference medical issues?  Not sure if more detail would make my case stronger and from what I'm seeing, neither of these two companies are really forthcoming with GW adjustments.

Short, sweet and to the point is preferrable, you have about 15 seconds to grab their attention.

Yeah, that's the approach I was taking so far. Wasn't sure if I needed detail to further strengthen my case or not. So, no details. Short and sweet. I can do that!
