So my wife has three judgements against her on her credit report ... and believes she has paid them back through garnishments, but isn't sure (we're working on her rebuild now).
How do we go about finding out if judgements have been paid off?
The courts?
The law firm that sued her?
The collection agency?
First step should legally be with the court.
The prevailing plaintiff is required, under state law and/or the rules of civil procedure for the court, to file a notification with the court within x-days of satisfaction of a judgment.
Assuming the plaintiff has complied with the notification requirement, then the court record should show notification of satisfaction.
If you check the court record and it does not how satisfaction, then contact the prevailing plaintiff and inquire as to their view of the debt status.
If they used an attorney, call that attorney first.
