Back in 2002 my a**hole mother opened up a credit card for Fashon Bug in my name with out my knowledge. I didn't find out till a couple of years ago after it had been charged off and sold to a collection agency. Only last year did I really start paying attention to my credit and start to clean it up, so I just paid the collection. Unfortunately at the time I wasn't very educated on credit and the importance of it. There are 2 accounts on my Experian report that are listed as "Legally paid in full for less than the full balance " for this Fashon Bug account. I'm guessing one was the original and the other one is the collection. For some reason its showing the DOFD is only in 2009 which is totally wrong. The actual DOFD was in April of 2003 which would explain why these accounts are no longer on my Equifax and TransUnion reports. So my question is what is the best way to go about getting this off of my Experian report? Do I dispute it because it wasn't actually my debt or did I already take on responsibility for the debt because I paid the collection? Or do I dispute the DOFD issue. What do you think the easiest most affective way to handle this?
Anyone?
Since you already paid it, a dispute of not yours wouldn't work, imo.
Do you have any copies of your credit report from 2003-2010? If you can find just one report that would have DOFD that was accurate on it, then you can dispute the DOFD that they are currently reporting.
They can only report 7-7.5 years after DOFD, where the account went 30 days and never caught back up.
ETA- The dispute process would be through the credit bureaus who is reporting inaccurate information.
WOW! while not direcltly related to the point of your post, you shold have filed a police/identifyt theft report against this party, not paid the debt, demanded removal from your credit report, and taken civil action.
Bujt you didnt. So now you are only left with CR removal issues.i think the SOL for civil action on this matter may have expired.
Saying now that it is not your debt requries you to go through the full indentify theft procedure set forth in FCRA 605B, and at a minimum, getting a police report after a 7 year gap does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling of sucess.
Your DOFD is established only by one date, and one date certain.
That is the first date that the OC account with Fashion bug occured, and then was never thereafter brought back into paid, good standing stautus.
That is the mandated CR date for intiiation of of the 7 1/2 drop off date under FCRA 605(c).
If my little brother wasn't still a minor I totally would have. So I filed a dispute with Experian the day before yesterday stating the DoFD was wrong and could they please update their files and I just got an email with the results, DELETED! That was easy! I'm excited.
