I just had the same thing happen on a GW letter I sent to WF. I was hopeful it was a strategic procedural move on their part to honor my request -- i.e., "We only report accurate information ..." -- thus, if my request was "disputed" they could more easily remove/bury the 30 day late.

I don't follow the correlation. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't follow the connection you're making. Wouldn't you need for the late to be removed first to determine if it was "costing any points"?

A disputed account is often ignored by the FICO algorithm so long as the dispute is ongoing. That being said if the account is dirty and it is being ignored, your score could actually temporarily increase. Goodwill adjustments are however not disputes, so if I were you I would reiterate that in some way to Capital One. I used to have that problem all the time with synchrony where I would request a Goodwill adjustment and the next thing I knew there were dispute remarks on my accounts. I would then in my next round of letters have to request that those marks be removed as I was in no way whatsoever disputing any of the information on those accounts.
The account I have been trying to get a Goodwill removal does the same thing everytime I send a Goodwill request the account shows up as in dipute. The answer I get is that my dispute is denied because I have not provided any new information and the account has previously been disputed. In my Goodwill letter it clearly states I am not disuting any information simply asking for a Goodwill removal.
The serious baddies on this account drop off 2 of the 3 CR this month and should drop from the third next month. However I am currently really trying to dispute a 30 day late that suddenly appeared on this account a few months ago for Feb of 2014. I made my regular payment that month on the 1st and then paid off the account on the 13th of Feb 2014.

FICO usually ignores any account under dispute.

FICO usually ignores any account under dispute.
So the correlation is with the late being now ignored, and no resultant change (increase) in FICO score, the late must not any longer have (negative) value. It is now merely aesthetic. (I, too, do not like seeing 99%)
Thank you, both.
