Re: Latest from AmEx on Blacklist Removal?

This was the case with me. I had amex charged off for about $1700 and they got somehow included when I filed chap 7. When I tried to apply amex, they never pulled my cr. It was instant denied. Couple of weeks ago whem I tried they pulled my cr and I met with "bankruptcy" message in my letter.

In your case, it sounds like you may be off the BL. How long ago was your BK CH7 filed or discharged?

Re: Latest from AmEx on Blacklist Removal?

I was approved by Amex for the Gold card 5 years and 1 month from the date of my CH 13 filing. Filed 4/17 and DC 1/21. Since then, they have given me the BCE, the HH and the Marriott Bevy with no additional pulls. Just waiting for my BK to fall off in 2024, and I will go for CLIs from them.

When I tested the Pre-Qual page two months prior to applying (4 years, 11 months post-filing) , it immediately came back saying it couldn't offer me a card. When I checked again at 5 years 1 month post-filing, it came back with the Gold pre-qual. I don't recall if any other card was pre-qualed at that point. I pulled the trigger on the Gold right away. I then submitted income verification as requested.

It is definitely a YMMV situation.

Mine was discharged in March 2020

Sounds like you've got another 2+ more years before your application may be considered if BK is still present on CRs. Basically, 61 months from your file date, IIRC.

Re: Latest from AmEx on Blacklist Removal?

Thanks for your response. Ya, at this point, i will just couple of years. I've gotten some decent cards at the moment like penfed with 10k cl, capital one with $6000, paypal mastercard with 7k and venmo with 8k. I have frozen all the credit bureaus at the moment.

And, believe me, time flies when it comes to credit goals or milestones. I'm sure you'll eventually get the opportunity to rekindle your AmEx relationship.

@SKBirdmind - sounds like yours is more of the BL status since your BK has aged the 61 months prerequisite by AmEx. Totally voluntary on your part as far as the $1,300 payment. Once paid, you can try things again after a month or so.

If included in bankruptcy you're blacklisted for 61 months. You don't even have to pay them back. All paying them is gonna do is give you less of a chance of being blacklisted for longer, if they were planning to based on past history.

I suppose that depends; I had AMEX cards of one flavor or another for over 30 years before my Chapter 13 back in 2015; AMEX got burned for something north of $25,000.  I've tried applying a few times since my discharge and I always get a denial message mentioning a previously closed account.

Told Need to payoff whole amount to get off blacklist... no time limit  to stay on the list....I don't miss them ..Was  among  the 1st to get the Platinum Card.. way back

You and me as well; the thing I miss most was the access to the Delta Sky Club, but I figure if I buy an annual membership directly from Delta, it would take me until I was over 100 before I'd paid them as much as it would otherwise cost me to get back in with AMEX.  Smiley Happy

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

While one cannot definitively say what AMEX will do, there are numerous reports within this forum from folks who made amends with AMEX by covering AMEX's loss, and got a new AMEX card shortly thereafter.  If I'd burned AMEX for roughly $1,300, I would pay it back as soon as possible in an effort to get back in their good graces.

Yes sir, that's pretty much where I'm at right now - pay the balance and see if I'm in luck alongside others who got back in within a sensible timeframe.

My apologies, I was asking if you recently tried their prequal, if it's available to you. If it's not available, then that means they still have you as a customer in their system, and are likely blacklisted. If the prequal is available, and it gives you an approval, you're not truly blacklisted but I find it hard to beleive their info isn't all well connected but, you never know and it's just a soft pull to find out (if it's available). Generally, if you get denied there, then again, yes you are still blacklisted. If you really want back in with AMEX, you can just pay the money you owe, and be done with it... If it's not worth it to you, there's the waiting game.

Actually, yes - I think so. I remember getting something in the mail from AmEx offering a business credit card, but upon closer inspection (i.e., keying in the invite code and applying) it was just a marketing ad. They denied my app without even pulling credit stating this was due to my previous account getting cancelled - thus, confirming me on blacklists. I haven't tried anything with them since. But yeah, I would say I'm the "pay them and be done with it" crowd given the amount...and especially if they're willing to let me in as a result.

Thats what I used to get when I got denied b Amex "Previous closed account". However, the last time I applied I got the "bankruptcy" message. I wonder if I will be able to apply after 61 months and get approved.

@FireMedic1 wrote:

Not burned or account holder. Its 61 months with a BK. Pay them back and you should get an invite to the Optima program. YMMV. Some do. Not all. Cant always go by what CSR's say. Thats been the norm on here for a while.

Huh, that's interesting... I wonder if I'm in a similar situation. Totally agree on "can't always go by what customer service says," so it's useful to hear the experiences of others. Previous denials for me have been due to only prior account getting charged off, stating nothing about bankruptcy...

Wow, that's an impressive haul - great info - thank you! Goes to show what's possible, with both loyalty and care...

Ain't THAT the truth - about 3 x years ago, I was pre-qualified for Capital One Platinum at $300 unsecured. But it only feels like yesterday... Now, that very same card has (slowly) grown to $1,500 limit. About 9 x months after opening said account, they offered me a Quicksilver at $1,000 limit - later increased to $3,500. $300 unsecured to $5,000 unsecured = all it took was time and not doing anything stupid. Seemingly, yes...but we'll find out!

HAH! Smiley Very Happy There is a lot to be said of the whole cost-benefit analysis - even by my math, something like $550/year for SkyMiles Reserve could pay for itself pretty quickly. SkyClub passes, checked bags, bonus miles, etc. etc....
