Hello,
I discharged from BK in 3/2018. I had a AMEX balance of $500ish. I paid them on roughly 1/05/23. Noticed the payment cleared my bank less than a week later. Went to Amex preapproval tool on 1/12/23 and I was pre approved for Platimun. I got the card with the NPSL.
Good data point...here is somewhat of an update on my situation.
I called the "Reserves Team" (?) at 800-700-7619 this morning, and the rep was able to confirm my payment was received on Friday - the check cleared on my end today. He explained to me that it will be held for 10 x days to insure nothing is returned or otherwise dishonored, then suggested waiting 30-35 x days for records to update throughout their system and backend.
At that point, I can apply for a new account just like anyone else. HOWEVER, only if the application is denied would I then be able to contact their New Accounts team for a proper explanation as to why - or if there are any other blocks, holds, etc. on my profile. i.e., he had no way of knowing from his perspective. I guess we'll see soon enough! At least I have the next month to lower overall utilization or do AZeO, so as to hopefully boost my scores a fair bit.
And so we wait...
@JoeRockhead wrote:What Brian is saying is since it was discharged, typically that means you are blacklisted for 5.1 years (61 months). But, there has been many cases where people have posted throughout this forum of remaining blacklisted for much longer, such as 10 years, etc. So, paying what you owe may get you off the list, if you're in fact on there. Have you tried applying? If you apply or try pre-qualifying and get any sort of denial message stating something like "We are unable to approve your application because we've closed one of your previous cards" then you are more than likely still on the blacklist.
I believe its 5 years, 1 month if you did not burn Amex.
@FireMedic1 wrote:Not burned or account holder. Its 61 months with a BK. Pay them back and you should get an invite to the Optima program. YMMV. Some do. Not all. Cant always go by what CSR's say. Thats been the norm on here for a while.
I realize this is an older post but did want to confirm its accuracy since it was bumped by the previous poster.
I did not include AmEx in my Ch 13. I paid off and closed my prior card before filing.
I still waited 61 months post filing... got my new AmEx in May 2022.

You are correct.

Allow me to toss a fly in the ointment. While I believe, based on countless reports from others, that the 5.1 yr & 10 yr blacklist is the norm in these situations discussed here, I filed BK 7 in 2014. In Aug 2016 I got a crazy itch to app for the Delta Skymiles and was approved ! A SL of 2k but an approval none the less. I didn't burn AMEX and had several of their products in the , 90's & 2000's to which I was never late. I ended up closing those cards ( stupidity and lack of knowledge) but I definitley beat that stigma for some strange reason. When I app'd I received a message that they were reviewing my App. A few days went by and I thought to myself I just wasted an HP. The 3rd day I still had not received any communication about my account so I called them. Bam, 2k approval. I almost passed out in shock. Today I have a 16k CL with them and never once asked for a CLI. Always automatic and the last two CLI were within less than 6 months of each other. Needless to say I've given them tons of love in exchange for lots of miles and decent CLI's. I wish I knew what took place behind the scenes as statistically I should have been flat out denied. I don't recommend anyone trying an early app as this was a definite fluke in my opinion. The number of cases on here reflect a reasonable and probable conclusion that denied apps await for most prior to 5.1yrs.
