Medical Collections for Paid collections

I have two collections on my CR that I am trying to get off (they are the only collections I have).  They were sent to collections and then I paid them off due to loss of job.  1 is for $50 then other is $87.

This morning I called the 24 hour emergency where I was a patient ($87) and they said sorry there is nothing we can do.

I also called the Hospital($50) and she was polite enough to make a note to call back in a week.

Since these are paid I don't think I can use the HIPAA process (please correct me)  Do I send a GW letter to the CA (The places that are actually showing on my report) or do I send it to the local hospital and 24 hour emergency place?  Thanks for any advice.  I have searched the forums but cannot find a clear answer.

Who is reporting them on your CR?  That is who you would have to send the GW to.   So if the CA is showing on your report, send them a GW.  I'm not sure on the HIPPA process, never dealt with it and don't discuss it in the forums.

Meade and Assoc. for the $50 and NCO FIN/99 for the $87.  So it is not the hospital and 24 hour emergency.

Re: Medical Collections for Paid collections

No, it's not the hospital or the 24hour/emergency that is reporting to your credit so it would not do any good to send them a GW.  You should send them to the 2 CAs that are currently reporting.  I will give you this glimmer of hope, I have always found GWs to be most effective when dealing with medicals, especially small ones.  Good Luck!

How does this sound?

Dear Creditor,

Re: Account Numbers and Info

Acct# XXXXXX   Amount $50.00

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter in order to request your help and understanding.  I had some immediate health issues in 2010 and received treatment at ABC Hospital and I was not aware my insurance did not cover the full balances.  I then did not have the funds to take care of the accounts so the accounts were sold to your company. I recently pulled my credit and seen it marked as Collections on my reports.  I paid the account as soon as I could, which was sometime in the 4th quarter of 2010.  My wife and I are expecting our first child and could use all the help we can get.  I see the account is showing “Paid” but still are collection accounts and hurting my credit scores.

I would like to request that your company have some mercy on me and please make a “Goodwill Adjustment” and remove the account from the credit reporting agencies.  Your kind gesture would be sincerely appreciated by my family.  I would like to thank you in advance for any help you may provide.  You may contact me through my address above or email at BLAH@FAKEMAIL.COM or by phone at 555-555-5555 (would prefer email).

Thank you again!

Yours truly,

Re: Medical Collections for Paid collections

So say I do not hear anything from them within 10 business days.  Grant it I did not put in a time...AND CRAP my cell number just changed.  How long should I wait to re-write them a letter?  It has been 6 business days since I sent in the letter.
