I have read on other boards that medical collections stay on credit reports for four years rather than seven. Is this the case? I have a six year old collection on my report that I will ask to have deleted. I tried PFD but they wouldn't bite.
Who was the CA?
Most people here will advise you use the HIPAA method which you can google because it can't be discussed on these forums to handle your medical collections.
Good luck!

I will go the hipaa method if need be but if these should come off after four years than this one should go on it's own. It is only reporting on Transunion now. It was on all three last year.

Nope that is some bad info, your state may have a 4 year SOL for suing but the FCRA dictates how long a CA including a medical CA can report and its 7 years + 180 days from the DoFD of the account. If you have already tried PFD then I suggest you go with the HIPAA Process...

OK Thanks!
If the collections will drop of in a year, you may not want to bother getting them removed, unless your planning some sort of purchase like a house. They're probably not hurting your score very much at this point. Plus, you could even see a decrease in your score initially. Part of credit scoring involves the age of accounts; the longer, the better. When the collections are removed, the average length of time that you've had accounts open will decrease.
