Negotiating late payment removals

I got in over my head with debt the last year or so, and it got to the point that a few months ago I fell behind on the payments on a number of cards. My credit scores crashed, obviously. None are in collections yet, but several of them have reduced my credit limits or closed the cards entirely, and are reporting 90-120 days past due.

However, I've recently received enough money to basically pay them all off.

My question is, can I call these creditors and negotiate payment and deleting the missed payments off my reports? Has anyone had any success with this? Any tips or suggestions? The banks reporting lates are Cap1, Sofi, and Comenity. I tried to limit the number of accounts reporting lates, the rest of my cards are in good standing.

Right now, my inclination is to tell them I only have enough money to pay off one creditor, and I'd like the money to go to them but only if they're willing to remove their derogatory marks from my credit history, and if they can't, then I need to send the money to a different card who will. But maybe there's a better tactic I can use?

Also, a side question: Is there any chance at all that I can negotiate with them to re-open a card they recently closed? The ones that got closed were the two Chase cards and an Upgrade card - ironically, all cards that I've paid on time. My hope is that if I can get my lates removed and pay down all my cards, they might consider restoring my accounts, especially since I never paid those accounts late.

Re: Negotiating late payment removals

Not to be a Debbie Downer but to offer a bit of reality, your chances of any of these lenders agreeing to remove the late payments are non existent.

They've likely all heard every angle people can come come up with.  Your only hope would be to engage in a continued (lengthy) goodwill campaign asking for the deletion of the lates.  If they do grant GW deletions, it won't be any time soon (could be years down the road).

In regards to lenders reopening accounts closed by them due to adverse information on your credit reports, that's also highly unlikely to happen.  You could reapply once some time has passed where your scores have started to recover, and you've re-established an on time payment history.

Re: Negotiating late payment removals

People do talk about pay for delete for collections, but I assume that only removes the collection, not the lates that led to it.
