Last night at midnight I get a SW alert. New medical collecton popped up for $166. I have received no phone calls, bills, or letters about this. It doesn't show me the original creditor. What do I do first? Should i call them to find out? I know they are required to send me the dunning within 5 days. I would prefer to contact OC & if the debt is valid, pay them & get them to pull it back from collections.
Any advice is much appreciated. I was just starting to make real progress & this is a huge blow
I would send a DV to stop the collection process.
+1
You should send a DV to put a cease collection on the account and give you a little time to work.
Ok, I just contacted the original creditor & they accepted payment & will be mailing me the receipt.
What should I do after that?
Did they pull back the account from the CA?
She said she didn't deal with that, another lady in the office does. She said it would be "paid". I am worried they wont. I had to pay it because today is the last day i can use my medical card with money (HRA account) to pay for 2012 expenses.
On a side note, this company never sent me a bill. When I tried looking their number up online the number listed was disconnected. They don't make it easy to contact them. I had to call the hospital where I had the surgery to even get a contact number for them. What I apparently paid today was a deductable that the insurance sisn't pay. I am really bummed My reports have been clean for over 3 years now. I need this new collection gone.
Open to any advise, please.
anyone?
Should I still send a DV to the collection agency?
Should i start HIPPA process?
Call original CA & beg/cry?
Just try to GW the collection agency that I never even dealt with?
It just hit my reports today. I paid the OC today.
The original account is a medical bill (deductible insurance didn't pay) for $166.
They turned it over to a collection agency with a name that sounds like a bunch of lawyers.
This collection hit all 3 CRA today. It is medical for $166.
I paid the origianal creditor today.
They said the have an agreement with the CA & will not pull it back, only report it as paid.
Suggestions?
