Okay guys, I am 23 years old, in the military and went through a pretty bad divorce while I was over-seas. When I came home from my deployment I could not find a job in the economy where I was living. I had good credit until that point & then everything went downhill. While I was deployed I got my Capital one card (7,300 credit limit card mind you which used to be 10,000 Credit limit and they EVEN upgraded to 12,500 for a short period) down to about $2,300. (I was so proud of myself!!) but then when I couldn't get work I had to use it again for emergency.
In that time I have:
1. Name: CAPITAL ONE BANK USA Acct #: XXXX Credit Limit: $ 7,300 Date Reported: 02/24/2013 Date Opened: 11/09/2008 Balance: $8,261 Past Due: $8,261 Acct Status: CHARGE-OFF

(whats my first step in paying this off and getting it out of here?)

What do I do from here you guys?? I need all the advice I can get and I am somewhat of a slow learner when it comes to this technical stuff. I want to get myself a car in the next year or so and Long term within the next 2-3 years a house. Sooner the better!!!!
Thanks!!! Btw I love this forum already, been a member for only 2 hours!
PS... I ran my "TRANSUNION" report and MY $294.00 STORAGE management COLLECTION was not on there? Do you know why? Could my EX have paid it and It just didn't report for Equifax?
Also... A little information, I make somewhere between 600-900 dollars a week sometimes w/ bonus's. I have zero bills to pay except for a Cellphone(100 dollars) . So if I went balls to the walls getting this taken care of what could my credit score be within the next 6-7 months? I have no Idea what kind of journey this is going to be and how long it's going to take but I want to get this monkey off my back, if you know what I mean?!
"If you're still active duty the best thing you can do for yourself is join navy federal credit union. Maybe usaa too. Navy will be your best friend in rebuilding."
I'm not active duty, I am national guard and was deployed for only 6 months. I am already a member of a local credit union that I have a $500 dollar credit card with that has all 100% payments on in since 2007'ish!
I just joined the NFCU and paid the 5.00 to open the account. It is currently being reviewed and I should receive an email in the next 24 hours. Okay, so now that I have this account with the NFCU, what do I do?
Thank for the help!!!
H i and Welcome to the forums,
starry1 has gave you great advice!
Reason why collection not on TU ..........CA's can report to all 3 CRA's, maybe just 1 or 2. It's up to the CA on which CRA they report to.
On the Chase Bank CC.... Does it say individual, joint or authorizer user?
It says Date Opened: 01/13/2010.....Do you remember about that time?
Were any of your accounts before you were deployed? If they were you could use the SCRA. It won't remove them but the creditor is limited to an across the board charge for everything of 6%. This could help temendously in the amounts you owe.
NFCU and USAA are open to guard and reserve.
