I had an unpaid collection on Equifax that was just removed last week. My EQ FICO score a couple of days before removal was 641. Immediately after the removal, it was 652. I was kind of expecting a bigger bump, since it was my only collection account. There were no other changes to my report other than the collection removal (I pull daily reports from USAA, so I know for sure).
I do have a nearly five year old satisfied medical judgement, as well as a 90 day credit card late from over a year ago, so my reports still aren't totally clean. Is it likely that I was rebucketed when my only unpaid derogatory account was removed, even though I still have other derogatory items? Or are my other items so bad that the collection removal just didn't help me much?
Chances are the other baddies are still holding you down. Do you have any good accounts? How many? Do you have any revolving accounts? If so what is your util?
I have tons of good accounts. A mortgage, 3 paid/closed car loans (one 30 day late, over two years ago), 2 current car loans, 3 current student loans, several paid/closed student loans (one 30 day late, over two years ago), a few old paid/closed credit cards, 5 current "major/prime" credit cards (Chase x 2, Discover, HSBC, US Bank), and 6 current store credit cards (GECRB x 3, Best Buy, Home Depot, WFNNB).
My oldest account is 13 years, my AAoA is 7.4 years. The 90 day late was from June 2011 on my WFNNB card, which has a zero balance.
My overall utilization is about 48%, and no single card is over 85%. None of the store cards carry a balance, except Best Buy due to 0% promo financing. Four of the major cards do carry a balance. I know that my utilization isn't good, and I am working on paying it down, but it's not like I'm maxed out on any single card, or overall.
I'm trying to get the judgement vacated, since it's been paid in full since 2008, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to. I've also been trying to GW the 90 day late, to no avail so far.
Same thing happened to me - I've removed three collections - I noticed that for me the older ones did not bring my score up quite as much as the more recent ones - in fact I just had the fourth and final one from Portfolio Recovery begin to report and it did not change my score at all - it is from an account that is scheduled to be removed (7.5 years) next summer
Don't think it's a rebucketing with baddies still showing on your CR. That's usually reserved for clean CRs.
Dropping your util below 10% will probably give you the biggest jump in score at this time.
