Paying old hospital bill collections on CR

Hello!
I owe $125  and $100 for old hospital bills. They are appearing on my CR under collections.
If I need to use a letter along with my payment, which letter should I use?
Do I use PFD, GW?

Also, once paying the collections (been on my CR since 2004), should I expect an increase in my credit score? The reason I ask is that I paid a collection around March of this year and my credit score went up 10pts which I was very surprised but excited at the same time.

Thank you all in advanced.

Re: Paying old hospital bill collections on CR

You'll want to follow the HIPAA process outlined on several threads TO THE LETTER.  Essentially:

** DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THE CA **

1. Send Pre-HIPAA letter to CRAs reporting the CO.
2. After validation, send HIPAA letter to OC with proper insert (usually if you're paying it, #1.)
3. Wait for deletion. If the check has cleared and you haven't seen your CO deleted within 30 days, post here again.
