Platinum MasterCard to World Mastercard

Hey all,

This seemed like the appropriate forum as this is an upgrade from a Platinum MasterCard the worst offering from Capital One to a World MasterCard. Can anyone explain what are the benefits to this or what exactly this means? Higher credit limits in future? Or does it really mean nothing besides what’s stated?

Here is the email I received with sensitive data redacted;

Great news! We’ve upgraded your current Platinum Mastercard card to a World Mastercard card with new premium benefits.

Your new card is on its way.
• It should arrive within 10 business days—until then, use your current card as usual.
• It will have a new expiration date and 3-digit security code.
It’s your card, only better.
On top of your current benefits, your World Mastercard card comes with new premium benefits:
Concierge Services
Experts are available 24/7 to help you find tickets, book travel, make dinner reservations and more.*
Trip Cancellation Insurance
If a trip purchased with your card is canceled or interrupted due to a covered loss, non-refundable expenses will be reimbursed up to $1,500.*
Identity Theft Resolution Services
If your identity is compromised, a Certified Restoration Specialist will guide you through the restoration process.*

How long have you had the card? What was your starting limit, and what is your current limit?

Re: Platinum MasterCard to World Mastercard

I’ve had the card 7 1/2 years started with a $300 credit limit, now at $2,400 between credit steps and card combinations. It is actually a QS1 now where it started out as the Platinum branded card.

Re: Platinum MasterCard to World Mastercard

Just for the added benefits (that you may not use) it's worth it.

Way back in 2003 I got a Cap1 Platinum Visa with a $1300 limit and got auto CLIs to $3400. After several years I got a letter saying I could convert it to a QS Visa Signature and the final CL before I closed it was $11k. Was the offer from Cap1 what allowed the CL to grow? I don't have an answer for that, but I know it grew faster after it was a Visa Signature.
