PreQualified for Amex Cards. are they any good ?

All --

In our Rebuilding phase we all look for that one good Prime Card which we can carry with confidence. Fortunately, I got a Disco with 10K CL in October.

today, I was just wasting my time around and looked at Amex Prequalify to see if i even prequalify for any. Looks like i do. The Four Cards that i got Qualified for are Hilton and Delta SkyLines. Now, I'm neither much of a Frequent flier nor the one to go stay at hotels regularly. So I'm not sure if i should even bother apply for these. Would that help me in anyway with the Credit Score boost ?

My Current UTL is >3% and < 4%

I Understand Anyy new App will bring down my AAoA. That is why i'm here seeking if it even worth a shot or shall i wait for another year till my credit gets better and go for the Big shark cards such as Citi and Chase ?

Also, I posted my Question here instead of Credit Cards section because most of you have first hand idea of my situation and can guide me in the right direction.

Re: PreQualified for Amex Cards. are they any good ?

Amex is a great lender and considered to be a prime card. They can grow well and have some terrific perks and benefits. Of the two, if you decide to get one, it's more logical to get a Hilton card as most of us stay in hotels more often than we fly.

If you would list all your cards, balances, and limits, it'll help us advise you. That being said (and admitting I'm a big Amex fan), I see any Amex as a positive thing to have in your wallet.

Re: PreQualified for Amex Cards. are they any good ?

In your case, I would definitely get the Hilton card and then cancel FP and both Credit One cards. Wait until each cuts a new statement with a zero balance (to ensure you have no trailing interest from past purchases), shut 'em down, and don't look back.

Re: PreQualified for Amex Cards. are they any good ?

Ditto on the Amex. I'm still new here and new to credit, but I can tell you Amex is my favorite out of my Discovery and BBVA Rewards card.

I have the Amex green card. Today I applied for the Amex everyday and got a CL of 8,000. For me that's a lot and it's good news. My Discover is 2100 CL and my bank Rewards card is only 2,000.

So the Amex has definitely taken me up a knotch or two. My experience with them has been great so far.

Great Advice from you too. Yes, Ihave been thinking to close the FP and Credit One cards ( only after making sure that there are no "Hidden" charges). Will go for Amex Hilton. Amex Hilton it is then. thank you both.

Re: PreQualified for Amex Cards. are they any good ?

I think either of those cards would be a positive for you. By now, you may have gone with Hilton. If so, I hope you got it!

If you haven't applied yet, just thought I'd mention, there are some personal factors that may move you toward Delta, depending on your situation. Mainly, do you fly much at at all, and when you do, is Delta the top choice at your local airport? In my case, it is. If you are in a similar situation, you might consider various versions of the Delta card depending on your needs.

I have the Delta Gold card, because my airport is a Delta focal city (next step from a hub), and because the free bag per passenger in my travel party easily covers the annual fee if I fly at all in a year. Also, with an economy ticket, you get to board in Zone 3 instead of Zone 5, as you otherwise would. And, you don't actually need to pay for the ticket with the Delta card to get those two benefits. Additionally, you get some other benefits that I personally don't use much (annual statement credit for extras, such as drinks on the plane or checking a second bag, etc, and a discount on stuff you buy on the plane such as drinks).

Beyond that, you should look at what hotels are in the Hilton portfolio (Hampton, etc) and think how often you stay in them, or how often you could stay in them without disruption or extra expense. I also have a Hilton card. In fact, I have the $450 AF Hilton card. But, I got that because I knew I would get more than $450 value out of it in the first year, due to a planned trip to Europe. On that trip, I got four nights of free room upgrades, two free hotel nights, and five excellent breakfasts, from the Hilton card. I also got airport lounge access (which I didn't use, but that's another story). For me, it was worth it this year, but it may not always be worth it.

Long story short, I think either Delta or Hilton is good to have in your wallet if you simply want a prime-lender card you'll be proud to have for many years, but choosing between the two is going to depend on some things about how you spend that we have no way of knowing. I don't think there's an automatic better choice between the two.

Also, I will mention that an Amex prequalification is by no means a guarantee you will be approved for the card. I have been denied when I was prequalified, and approved when I was not prequalified. Though these two cards (Delta and Hilton) are known for being relatively easy to get, so you should have a good chance of approval.

Good luck!
