Scoring question

I paid off my school loan, 2 department store cc's, and I have 1 payment left on my car.  I paid my truck off last week...I want to know how long it will take before this effects my score and how positive this MAY be.

Re: Scoring question

Your change in score will depend on what else you have on your report.  Do you have any other open CC's or installments?  A lot of times when you pay a lot of things off your score actually takes a hit because you have decreased the AAofA and you have altered your credit mix, both of which factor in your credit score.  If you're trying to increase your score, you want to stagger how you pay off installment accounts so the effect on AAofA is more gradual.

Paid off or not...closed or open...none of those factors change your AAoA.  Paying things off, also, does not change your credit mix.

If your installment accts are paid and in good standing...excellent.

If youir CC's are paid off in full, you should stagger how you use them, just so the ccc's do not close the acct or drop your limits. Some people set up automatic utility payments on their cards to keep them active without charging up a bunch of items.  Use one for each bill every month, then PIF before the statement cuts.

Keep your overall cc util % posting each month, somewhere between 7 & 9%and your scores will be nice!  That is, unless you have baddies reporting too, then those need to be GW'd away, or let them age until they drop.

Re: Scoring question-Update!!!

I'm just upating on the changes in my scores since I sent this message.  My scores have gone up 138 points since October 20th!  It is possible to raise scores quickly.  Had a mtg loan rep deny me for a new mtg then tell me I needed to keep my money, I was gonna need it.  She didn't even tell me to pay bills off or down or anything!  She was a real snot and laughed at me.  I called her back when score had gone up 107 points and she was in shock that you could bring a score up that fast.  That was just last week now it's up another 35 points!

Yes, it can be done!!

Re: Scoring question-Update!!!

First of all, I sold my home and didn't buy another.  I'm living in my camper at a park for $500 per month to pay bills off.  One cc was $600, the school loan was $850, the 2nd mtg was $13000, the mortgage was $78000.  The balance on my car was only $480 and the truck was $665.  I'm working on getting the other cc below 50% in the next 30 days.
