Strange light at end of the tunnel

I haven't touched credit in 10 years and everything finally fell off and left me with a blank report on all three bureaus.
Applied for Amex BCE and was approved for 5k after calling to confirm identity.
Applied for Capital One and approved for the steps program with initial limit of 300.
Applied for auto loan preapproval from USAA and was given the green light for up to 18.7k
I want to say the amount of knowledge I have gathered from these forums is truly priceless. After learning to control my spending and sticking to budgets the credit world is giving me another shot.
No clue why Amex approved for 5k but I am counting that as a blessing and a great start.
Vantage scores were lowest 598EX to 638EQ.
No idea what my FICO scores are yet.

Thank you all for sharing the experience and information . Had to register here just to say thanks.

Congratulations on your approvals!

If you haven't done so already, read the 3x CLI AmEx thread.

Re: Strange light at end of the tunnel

I have a little but scared to do it. Someone might say "oops" we shouldn't have extended this guy credit and either lower or cancel the account. Kinda hoping to fly under the radar.

I can understand your apprehension.

Did you have a prior satisfactorily relationship with AmEx?

You can always scour the approvals, credit card forums for data points. I think you'll be okay.

It's a solid starting limit. There's something they like about your profile.

I won't argue. I was thrilled.
