Experienced a death in the family and went into death paying for the funeral. As a result, credit cards were neglected and went to collections. I am slowly digging myself out of a hole and want to start clearing them up as we are thinking of buying a house. However, I don't know where to start or who should I pay first.
All of the following are in collections
Besides the ones listed there are 2 cards current with $0 balance.
Help - Thanks in advance

The good news is Portfolio and Midland will delete if settled for less or PIF. Not sure about the others. I am so sorry for your loss.

Midland and Portfolio will delete after the payment, don't know about Resurgent
Thank you.
Does it make sense to negotiate with Midland and Portfolio for the amount of the limit or just pay the reporting amount?

I'd try settling because after it's deleted, it's not like anyone will see it again
Great, I will try settling. Thank you so much for your help.
Hi @creditfirefail19 - Resurgent is actually LVNV, who refuses to do PFD. Dealing with them on one of my collections now (they are not fun to deal with). Good luck with your repair!
Hi @ladeda8971 - Are you trying to get a lower payment option with LVNV? I searched for my account on their website and there were discount offers available.
You can negotiate a settlement with Resurgant/LVNV, but they will not PFD/remove. IIWM I would pay off Midland & Portfolio Recovery first, so you can get those off your report, then deal with paying LVNV. GL!

I'm going to PIF to LVNV, as this one won't "fall off" my credit report until January 2021.
