Will score go up?

I am currently trying to rebuild my credit. When I was young I did not care. But now I'm married and have a young son, it is my biggest concern in life. My score is 568 witch is up from low 5's two months ago. I have three derogatory marks and one is a revolving jewelry loan. I also have $2,300 in maxed out credit cards. This week I plan on paying off the cards and also paying off the collections. The simulator says if I pay off my cards my score will go up to 620-650. Is this accurate? If so how long will it take to show? Also should I try to get the collection agency to agree to delete the collection if I pay it? Or should I just pay it?

Re: Will score go up?

Always try to go for a PFD first, see if they will delete the baddie.  If not, then I pay/settle and try the GW route.  Remember, just paying a baddie doesn't make it go away.

Re: Will score go up?

Is it ok to call them and tell them I will pay in full if they delete the account? And tell them to E-mail me a letter stating they will delete it immediately. I just want this to happen as fast as possible. I do not want to wait on letters to get mailed.
