I'm confused about this. I thought that it can't stay on your report past the SOL. They can keep trying to collect on the debt forever but they can't report to the CRAs past the SOL. Is this correct? Or are you saying that they can report to the CRAs forever as long as the debt is unpaid?
There are 2 different SOLs. One is federal and it says how long something can stay on your report for COs and collections which is 7.5 years from the DoFD. The other is state and is how long a creditor has to sue you. One has nothing to do with the other.
to dabears i know that unpaid debt doesnt go away the last of my baddies was a Cap1 auto loan that was paid off in Feb 2012 and it was 60 days late when i paid it off and that is the last of the bad accounts to age off so i am working on paying off the others and hoping i can PDF some of them otherwise i will have to let them age off

CA just showed up on my report this month. I have already send DV letter and I am waiting for a response. IF this is actually my account, it would have become delinquent 7 - 10 years ago. The only dates CA is showing on my CR is a date of last activity (11/12) and date of last deliquency (3/13). Neither of these dates have anything to do with anything. I have not had any contact with them regarding this debt AT ALL (nor with the OC for 7 or more years). So the dates they are listing are bologna. Correct me if I'm wrong but whether I owe this debt or not, it should not be on my report any longer.

What file? What about forgiven debt that needs to be reported to the IRS?

You have a credit file that contains all of your data. This is different from your credit report.

It will remain on your credit file, but not your credit report, if properly reported. CA's can chose to collect at any time, even 10 years later.

Who can view this file?? And where can you get a copy of your own??

Certain lenders will pull your file. Not sure if or where you can see it.
