Re: online disputes

I disputed online 3 judgements that were paid 6 years ago and satisfied, but never marked as satisfied on my and DW's credit report and they removed them within one or two days.

I was stunned.  I submitted one on Sunday and they removed it on Monday with a letter saying they confirmed the information and deleted it.

Re: online disputes

Disputes on the basis of "account/debt not mine" usually fail.

Absent more than an assertion, it is unsupported.

In response, the furnisher of the disputed information can rely upon whatever documentation they possess to state that they have basis to verify the accuracy of their reporting.  Verification does not require that they provide documenation or that they "prove" the accuracy, so you are essentially left we a he said, she said.

They are most likely not going to simply ignore their internal documentation based on an assertion by the consumer.

Acknowledging the catch-22 in not having documentation to prove a negative, the FCRA provides recourse to blocking information from your credit report without documentation, provided you attest in a sworn police report that you never authorized the account, and thus must have resulted from use of your identity by another.

I would, if you can make the statement that you never authorized the account/debt, pursue via the FCRA identity theft process rather than the dispute process.

Re: online disputes

would the ID theft cause a freeze or alert of some sort on my reports? would it affect me in the future with trying to get credit? I am just trying to better understand an item on my report that I really believe is not mine. I would never drive 3 hours just for medical care unless it was a specialist - this seems to be some type of radiological charge. Its small, and I could just pay it - but should I have to pay something that is not my debt because someone made a mistake somewhere..... I guess I should contact the OC (after getting that info from the CA) and go from there...?
