Amex Charge Card Annual Spend (Platinum / Gold / Green)

I haven't been able to find this topic on the forum but please point me to a thread if it exists.

How much do you charge annually to your Platinum, Gold, or Green Card?

Re: Amex Charge Card Annual Spend (Platinum / Gold / Green)

My personal Plat card in 2021 - charged a total of $31K and our household income is $175,000 so about 18% of annual income.

Last year was a high year due to a house we bought and the improvements needed.

Plus a retention bonus for 60K MR points to keep the Plat another year helped with spend - "had to spend an extra $3K" Smiley Wink

Re: Amex Charge Card Annual Spend (Platinum / Gold / Green)

Last year I ended up hitting $341k...

this month, or half month should I say I've only ran 9500 on the card, Dec/Jan/Feb/ are some of my traditionally slower months.

So I think a safe answer would be "It varies greatly" like almost any card.  (Although the charge cards probably get more higher end)

That's it, @bilwilvegas? Lol Smiley Tongue

In the context as mentioned earlier, what's that as a percentage of annual income if you don't mind sharing?

Also of note ... if you put all that on the Platinum card, you might get an offer for a Centurion card since I've heard that AMEX targets profiles spending over $250K annually on Platinum for that upgrade.

That would be around 15% of my earned income last year.  Most of the gold card spend is restaurants and groceries so I would not want to use the platinum card on those and only get 1 point instead of the 4 points I get on the gold card.  I hit just over 950,000 MR points last year between the cards and a few referral bonuses.  This was my first year with Amex (member since 1991 but I stopped carrying cards and used cash / debit cards for many years . . . just caught on to all I was missing in the points game about a year ago) and I thought they looked at combined spend on all of your AMEX cards.  If it is just Platinum cards then I will be sad as I most likely wont ever see a centurion invitation (I know it is a stupid amount of money for the initiation fee and annual fee, but I think I would really be tempted to take the card just for the fun of having it).  We spend a ton of time in Belize and unfortunately at the end of January 2022 the country of Belize had some sort of banking issue and their national bank needs to negotiate new terms with AMEX before anyone in the country can accept AMEX again.  I am hoping they get that resolved soon.  In the mean time I am using my X1 card for all of our expenses down in Belize (Which has worked out well as I just got back and have earned 204,500 X1 points during my first 30 days with that card).
