NEW YORK – June 16, 2022 – American Express and Delta Air Lines today introduced the first-ever credit card design made with a retired Delta Boeing 747 aircraft. The limited-edition card design is available exclusively for Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business Card Members from June 16 through August 3, 2022.

That's really strange. I would have thought that there would have been hundreds of such designs in the past!
Or, to be more pedantic, did a retired Delta Boeing 747 REALLY participate in the design.

The aluminum is from the skin of the actual, specific 747. It's not about the silhouette of the airplane. BECU has versions of its plastic cards with images of some Boeing aircraft including military aircraft. That's been done.
Name another US-built aircraft design which is more iconic for air travel.
Future note, they will never be able to do this with a 787
I'm going to have to apply for this card.
They've done gift cards in the past using 747 metal. I went ahead and ordered a replacement for my business Reserve. Not sure if they ran out of white ink to fill in the grooves or what, but my expiration date and CVV are so dark and don't contrast at all, and it is really difficult to read them indoors when I make online purchases.
pretty neat. 747 is one of the best looking airplanes of all times imho next to the b-52 (something so gorgeous about that plane as well)
I want this card now sigh.. the buessiness version, just dont agree with af sigh.. SWA card it is due to sign-up bonus and better flights paths for me.
But I love the purple 😭
The purple (metal and recycled plastic) is still available for the consumer version of the card, not sure about the business version.
Actually like the purple better than this design. But it is kinda cool it is made out of a 747.

The purple metal cards are still the default cards for both consumer and business versions. This is just a limited time alternate design option.
