DWI/DUI....just don't do it!!!

Im posting this here as more people will see it. I just spent all morning dealing with central lock-up and before a magistrate judge getting a friend out of jail for DWI/DUI offense. If you are drinking, please don't drive.

Prior to my involvement she was looking at forking out almost $5,500 just to get out of jail. Between bond costs, court costs, legal fees, etc (thankfully, this person didn't injury herself or anyone else)...its just not worth it.

Duncan, you didn't have to come up with any $$, did you? Seemed like you were so focused on getting toward your own goals - I'm sorry for your friends mistake but I hope it didn't affect you financially.

I hope she makes wiser decisions going forward. Thankfully (and I'm assuming here) no one got physically hurt.

You are a live bullet when you are drunk/high and drive.

i was a DUII counselor for many years and now work in a prison and see men coming in for their 4th, 5th, 6th+ DUII's. It makes me want to vomit sometimes.

DUII's are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE, at best.

No it didn't cost me any money. I got judge to reduce bond to zero, ROR (released on own recognizance) - while not financially responsible in the past I am actually a pretty good attorney.

With big holiday weened coming up I just wanted to warn people. It's not worth your life or someone else's to drive intoxicated.

Not much difference bewtween DWI/DUI and distracted driving (texting, dialing, putting on makeup, etc).

When you drive, JUST DRIVE, nothing else.

I agree there is a difference, but we have certainly taken to thinking of our cars as living rooms, what with the comfy seats, stereo systems, videos, eating, drinking, and chatting with people. I learned to drive in Europe where you were taught that you had a responsibility to monitor your and your vehicle's systems at all times as it is essentially a 2 ton bomb on wheels. We each have a responsibility to ourselves AND to the others who share the roads with us to DRIVE SAFELY at ALL times, which means no drinking, drugs, or distractions.

There are all kinds of studies out there that say that distracted driving is as dangerous as drunk driving. Yes, they are different actions but when the net result shows no difference, then there IS NO DIFFERENCE.
