I honestly can't tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz, I doubt 240hz will make any difference
I don't think i notice a difference between response times under 8ms either
This is where variable refresh rate displays come in handy. GSync and Freesync are there to help alleviate the screen-tearing caused by cards that just don't quite cut it. Buy the better monitor now and enjoy your 970 a little longer.

This is entirely dependant on the person. I can see a big difference in refresh rate and like it. My wife hates it when anything is over 60hz

But in big gaming, AAA titles refresh is where it's at 1440p at 120hz over 4k 60 hz any day. In fact I'd go 1080p at 240hz over 4k 60hz. But I think the sweet spot 1440p 120hz. Only because 4k at 120hz or 240hz, those monitors because awfully pricey.
