J-O-B-H-U-N-T-I-N-G, spells "Stress," Baby!!

Well, I already mentioned that I was applying for a position as a CA (if it wasn't for the fact that it was a great CU with a great rep, I'd be disgusted with myself for even uttering those words!).

I really don't think I'll get the job. Its been several days and I haven't heard a peep from them. *sigh*

So I apped for a few other jobs. I am just so burnt out on graphics. Especially where I live. Graphics here are pretty much limited to painting murals with the words "Sale! Sale! Sale!" in a shop window. And I ain't no great shakes at murals like that.

So over the weekend, I've apped for positions such as a Sprint Customer Care Specialist, a legal assistant/secretary, an administrative assistant (where I'd do some graphics design, so that'd be nice), and a few for government contracting (which I've not done in AGES) -- mainly the "easy" stuff such as jr analyst and such.

Yeesh. So now it's the waiting game. I want a job soooo bad. We're hoping to buy a house at the end of this year, and while I know that my income wouldn't be considered (since I'd be less than 2 years on the job) it would still help pay the mortgage (not to mention continue paying off old debts)! And besides, it's the "slow season" for graphics 'round here and I am bored to DEATH!

So long story short ... if you guys could spare some good vibes in this little pursuit of mine, I'd really, really appreciate it. I'm SO terrified of being rejected -- especially since I never finished college (my campus has been closed for some time now and I have NO idea where to get the fricking transcripts -- too, I never finished) and haven't done anything other than graphics for the past 10 years.

So, please, please, please wish me luck!! Especially that I get the CA job or even better, the gov contracting job!! Thank you so much in advance!! Ya'll are just like family!!

Wonderin, good luck!

You can have my job if you want it.

On a professional level, one place I would go to if I needed to is to the local chamber of commerce. I've witnessed a couple of folks join our local chamber for the sole purpose of finding a well-paid position. They joined as individual members and publically sold themselves and received great positions within a couple of companies. Basically, you'd bypass the entry and low level managers and schmooze with corp. officers who have the real clout.

Some College Transcript  humor:

5 Years ago I was asked to provide civil service a copy of my college transcript.  I had been a professional computer programmer for 25 years and civil service for 15 at that time.  I was coing home to New York for Thanksgiving so I figured no big deal and went down to Queens College to get a copy.  I waited in line and lets just say I felt a little older then everyone else in line and lets just further say that when I was aksed what year I graduated, the look of horror on the CSU's face and the request to come back on Monday just made my day.

On college degrees and jobs.

In my field (programming) I can tell you that programming is an art so you really cant learn it in school and job experience counts in my mind for everything.  The truth is that many times people get a job not because they are they best candiate but by being in the right place at the right time which could just mean being the last interviewe for the day or the last one before lunch.  Dont be afraid to call and ask if they have made a selection yet.

Anyway good luck and I hope you get the job.  You got my vote.

Oh, for the love of freaking pete. I just went to the Sprint "job submission status" page and saw that I wasn't selected for the job (I think that really means that they saw my resume and just blew me off entirely -- that I wasn't even considered for further review). This was for a position for a call center employee.

This was the "lowest skilled" job I apped for (not saying that this is "low-skill," just saying that the others I apped for are going to be WAY tougher to qualify for). So I don't even qualify for a job just taking calls. So managing my own office for the past 8 years and two other offices means nothing. Smiley Sad

This, on top of our rent check bouncing (which I've whined about in the mortgage forums) because some stupid merchant debited our account 5 days early which might ruin us for apping for a mortgage under FHA (or probably any sort of mortgage loan) for another 12 months.

AND on top of ACS not coming through (yet) with their GW to remove lates (in exchange for the all crap they given us over the years -- increasing our payment 200% on the LEVEL plan and "losing" our promissory note). They updated July's payment, which was made AFTER they agreed to GW the lates. Or am I panicking too early on that??

Yeesh. I am just so .... bummed. Life really sucks right now.

Thanks for letting me vent, guys. I think I'm just going to go crawl in a deep hole for a while. Smiley Sad

Sorry about all that. When it rains, it really does pour.

As for the job, I'll bet they tossed your app because you're over-qualified. They probably figured that you'd be bored to tears within three days, and that by the time they'd invested all the money in you for training, you'd quit.

It can be really hard for degreed people with lots of experience, especially management experience, to get an entry-level job! Strange, but true.

Re: J-O-B-H-U-N-T-I-N-G, spells "Stress," Baby!!

Thanks, you guys!! I really needed the words of encouragement today. I really don't mean to be such a whiner!! :/

I think Sprint blew me off MAINLY because I did say that I can't work weird hours. DH travels all the time, so the graveyard shift (f'r'example) would be completely out of the question. There's no way I can leave my kiddos (11 & 14) home alone at night like that. I'd never be able to concentrate on anything other than whether they're all right or not. :/

I've applied to a total of 10 jobs. Haven't heard a peep back from anyone except Sprint yet. So while I've not lost hope completely, I sure ain't feelin' fine. :/

And thank you, Hauling, for saying I'm "over-qualified" -- maybe at one time I was, but honestly, when I'm tailoring my resume for "job X" and "job X2" I just feel like I don't really have much to contribute. *sigh*

What I'd REALLY like is a job doing something with credit -- you people have really made it such a fascinating subject and so much fun (wow! did I just say "fun?"). I often find myself rarin' at the bit to get on here and talk to you guys! My RL friends barely even cross my mind some days!!

Anywho, again, guys, thank you for listening and being so supportive. Ya'll really are Good People (that's always been the highest compliment in our house!).

Adore ya'll to pieces!!! Hugs!!!

I am not sure what state you are located in but please do not give up. Sign up with some temp agencies to see what they have. Also, look to see if Aerotek is located in your area. They always seem to have good gigs. Not always the highest paying but good ones. If you need some help, PM me and I will help you. i seem to be the person who everyone I know calls to help them in their search so you may as well use me also.
