Re: Project Car(s)

I LOVE the Zcars!

I'm still daily driving my 2007 VW GTI, which is a project at times Smiley Wink

I have a 2002 Mustang GT with almost 300k on it that I left in FL when I moved to NYC . . . a friend has been using it as a second car and I drive it when I go to visit my family. She told me recently that she thinks the motor is shot, so I need to check that out and figure out what I want to do with it.

I search eBay almost daily for:

Foxbody Mustangs (used to have an '86)

Third Gen Camaros (used to have an '89 and then a '91)

Z-Cars

80s Supras

Dodge Daytona/Chrysler Laser

Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest (my roommate has a mint '88 Quest)

Also love Bandit T/A's and Grand Nationals

Also potentially interested in completely random classic cars nobody cares about . . . 80s Cavalier Z-24, Ford Escort GT, 90s Bonneville, 80s GrandAms

I could keep going on. Haha.

On the mustang I'd upgrade from that 2v to a Terminator or Coyote.

My first car was a 93 Escort LX sedan hatch and I remember wanting a GT or swapping the DOHC into my LX. I've always liked their styling for some reason and I still would buy one today if they weren't all trashed.

Loved the Escort GT in the mid-80s! Fond of your era, too.

Would absolutely love to Coyote swap the '02 Mustang . . the body has a zillion miles on it, but it's never been wrecked and is rust free having spent it's life in FL. The hood needs a repaint, but the rest still shines up and the interior is good.

Also, how much fun would a Coyote swapped Fairmont Futura be?!?

When I worked at a Mitsubishi dealer it looked like a starion meet everyday. Lol. My mom had an Escort GT. It was fun, until it got totalled. I could do a mkiii Supra or a fc rx7. I think those would be fun.

I think the Starion was sooooo underappreciated. And I forgot to mention the RX-7! Saw a first gen on my way to work today.

My old neighbor had a first gen. He loved that thing so much.

Re: Project Car(s)

Late to the party here, but this was my most recent fun car - 2003 540i MSport. I didn't do anything too crazy to it, just wanted to pretty it up a little and give it a little more thump underhood - scuba tank delete, M60 intake manifold (really nice gain from this), some engine detail work, and a vinyl wrap on the trim (it had the common wood trim and I wrapped it with textured brushed titanium vinyl). Fun car but it had a serious maintenance fetish and I got sick of it - it wasn't worth constantly fixing it so I sold it and moved on. I miss that midrange V8 torque but not the hours of constant wrenching in order to drive it.

Re: Project Car(s)

@BES, unfortunately it was too many years ago for me to have many pics but this was my old 300ZX. It was a 1990 2+2, and several years into ownership I swapped the twin turbo engine into it. 5mt of course. It had all the bolt-on breathing mods, ECU, PRofec-B boost controller, one-piece driveshaft, JWT clutch, Exedy flywheel, Apex'i S-AFC, Stillen SMICs, RC 555cc injectors, and made 466whp, 485wtq. Lots of suspension mods, some braking upgrades, and those 18" Volk AV3 forged wheels, 8" front, 10" rear. Tires were 245-40-18 front and 285-30-18 rear. There was a ridiculous amount of additional stuff done that I won't bother to bore everyone with but let's say there weren't too many bolts left untouched.

The car was essentially a carnival ride. Shot fire out the exhaust on full throttle up shifts, could break traction in three gears, and with the factory T22s and the NA 4.08 gears, it essentially redefined "zero lag" - boost came very very quickly. That thing was a fun car.

Re: Project Car(s)

@ImTheDevil - sweet rides! I sure hear you on that German car maintenance. When they are good they are SO good and when they're not, lord what a pain.

I have a neighbor that has that same generation Z that was in relatively good shape less a pretty nasty front end/passenger fender crash. I hadn't seen it in a while and thought he got rid of it. This morning it was back with a new bumper, fender, new black paint job (it was maroon before) and new rims and tires . . .made me very happy to see!

Re: Project Car(s)

Thank you Smiley Happy

Every time I see a Z32 with love put into it, it warms the evil of my little black soul Heart The Z32 twin turbo can be a monster with relatively little work, and even the non-turbo variant is a lot of fun. I was running around 18psi of boost on mine, and it was a "I think my ears touched" kind of ride in 3rd gear (1-2 were hopeless under full throttle).

I'll have to throw some of my Audi in a little bit. Another fun car Smiley Happy
