Everyone else uses your credit reports to verify who you are, why wouldn't the government? Also, they can't SP a locked or frozen account unless they had previous permission and they still have a legitimate reason to look. So, you gotta unlock it at least once for them.
The bureaus are now required to allow you to un/freeze your reports for free. You should cancel your service. I can freeze or thaw my reports in a matter of seconds for free. Like literally open the app with my fingerprint and click lock or freeze.
