Tech Question

I have a 2008 Dell 1525 Inspiron Laptop. She crashed before year one anniversary and never seemed to get better. I finally bought more (memory, I think) plus ungraded to Windows 7. She doesnt care for it. I am not debating on getting a new computer but fell she works sometimes so she is still ok. Any advice or suggestions on a good computer to buy. I am in school working on my masters and cant afford to have issues with my computer. Plus my baby ( the computer I have) is a little heavy.

I'm partial to Sony Vaios, but they are a bit overpriced.  They're not Apple overpriced, but they are a little.
