Our poor cat fell, somehow, into an oil barrel that had motor oil in it. His long fur is coated. What can I do?
I "think" Dawn dish washing soap will clean the cat up. I hope someone else will verify that.
Hi imhotrodcrazy--- Thanks for your post.
After I posted I googled and found that Dawn is the answer. It took three of us to hold that sucker down and wash him - he was black and white - but now he seems to be brownstained and black. Poor Thing!
my son also lost his glasses. The pug must have taken them outside because we have looked top to bottom.
What a day!

I am glad it helped. I know how hard it is to get a cat to hold still when trying to wash them. I have fought that battle myself over the years. You may have to do it a couple of times to be sure you have all of the oil out. I don't envy you, that must have been a hard job.
I'd check with your vet, too. Cats groom themselves endlessly, and swallowing motor oil can't be a good thing. Cats are especially sensitive to chemicals, and their kidneys can get damaged very easily.
The vet might have something formulated especially for a cat.
Sure, blame it on the pug! (proud human to two of them, best dogs ever!). Hope your kitty is ok, I would definately check with vet (you likely can find something online) about the grooming aspect.

EXCELLENT point, don't know why I didn't think of that. Must be senility setting in.

It's all that motor oil you've absorbed over the years while bathing cats!
Now the poor fellow only have 8 lives left.
The cat seems to be doing okay - He's up around, eating, drinking and sneaking out a night. He looks just awful tho! Kinda funny in a really sad and pathetic way.
Still haven't found the glasses either. Went to Walmart as they advertise 29 dollar glasses for back to school. Ended up paying well over 50. He has to wait 7-10 days for them to come back, and his eyes are bad. If I wasn't penny pinching he'd be okay but we all have to make sacrifices in the name of "The House" , right? Blind Schmind.
