I have been a Lifetime Fitness member for about 3 years under my parents membership. They cancelled when I went to college and now I have returned home.
I want to sign back up but they are asking for $50 joining fee in addition to $62/mo for the membership. I will only need a membership for 3 months.
I spoke to the finance manager on the phone earlier and he insisted it is not possible to waive the fee but he offered to credit me $50 in "lifetime bucks". This is obviously not satisfactory to me.
I will be going in tomorrow to further speak with them about signing up. Other than bringing up being a member for 3 years before cancelling and taking down a good review I have written.. what are other ways I can negotiate waiving this signup fee?

Are there other gyms that you could join instead?

Uhm, if you only need it 3 months, could you possibly excercise at home? If that doesnt work you can always join my gym free
I actually found out that my college recreation center offers a $49 membership for the whole summer (4 months).
This is a much better value than $62/mo and the facilities are comparable.
The only downside is that the campus rec closes at 9PM, unlike Lifetime which is 24 hour. I already work at the college so I can go lift after I get off work. I will call Lifetime tomorrow and apologize for wasting their time.
