I have a personal AMEX green card from 1984. Don't use it much now but, it is my oldest card and I am grandfathered in at a very low yearly fee. The card was approved for a $50k charge when I checked a couple years ago out of curiosity.
Highest "modern day" charge/monthly spend, according to CB records, is around $3200/$3500. Used the card more heavily in the early days before FICO.

I hope that holds for you. I got my Green card in 1994, last renewal in August was $55.00, and the Amex site described the account as "Classic Green Card". I got the notice in October that my card had been enhanced and the AF going forward will be $150.00.
Well - that's not good. Looks like I may have to drop the card. The added rewards have no value to me
My AF was $35 initially and I considered dropping the card when it was raised to $55. Amex held my fee at $55 when there was a bump up to $95. I was hoping that would be the case with this latest, rather extreme, increase. Wonder if I can convert to a credit card with no AF and maintain account history. That should be offered as an option.
However, I do like having a NPSL charge card that doesn't factor into revolving credit utilization and I don't need another credit card.

That's consistent with what I've heard about other old charge cards...Amex won't necessarily start charging the new, higher fee right away on all old accounts...but after a few years everyone's paying the latest rate.
Amex may have little incentive to offer a no-fee charge card when they've been collecting fees on many old Green cards from people who don't use a lot of the benefits.
