Discover student loan/credit card payment question

I am considering a Discover Student Loan. I also have a Discover account that has a balance.

The student loan does not have to be paid back until I graduate, or stop attending school. I am curious, though, if I make payments to Discover if they will automatically pay off that loan instead of my credit card balance, as that loan would be my lowest rate that I owe Discover.

Anyone know how that would work?

Re: Discover student loan/credit card payment question

If I am not mistaken, the loan would be a completely separate account. Any payments you make to your credit account would be applied to your credit account. The loan is a different account all together. It would be classified as a loan, and would report as such. Which is different than a charge account that is revolving.

So any payments made to your revolving account would not be credited to your installment account.
