Can anyone answer this question? My original SLs was Mohela. I completed the rehab program through Pioneer Credit Rec in April (YAY!) My new lender is Sallie Mae. My question is: Am I out of look for getting the derogs removed from the original lender if I dispute them with the CRAs?
Sidebar: I have 11 SL TLs and about $90,000 in medical bills for my son on my CRAs, should I consider bankruptcy? My husband and I make about $70,000 a year gross, which isn't much really with a large family in Cali!

Your lates may not come off despite what the CA might have told you. Per the Dept. of Education only the record of default has to be removed from your tradelines unless you have documentation that says otherwise.
Nobody can tell you if bankruptcy is right for you and your family. It's a tough decision but it depends on many factors. The most common reason people fully a BK is due to medical bills. Do your research, speak to a reputable attorney, and understand the impact on your credit for the coming years. You might also want to see if the medical bills can be negotiated down. Student loans will not be discharged in bankruptcy either.
Thank you for the information!
I knew that student loans can't be discharged, I'm in that for the long haul and am very ok with it. It's not like they shoved the loans down my pocket!
This forum is very help!
