June 2024 Check-In Thread

I know you are all hard at work with your credit goals.  Have you progressed as far as you hoped?  Were there any unforseen expenses that cropped up and may have thrown you off schedule?

As a reminder, participation in these monthly check-ins is optional, just encouraged. The goal is to help keep you on track, so feel free to post your progress updates here. This is a judgment-free zone. Feel free to say what's keeping you up at night or give yourself a Kudo for having it all together.

Did you hit any potholes or speedbumps? Achieve some milestones, either small or mighty? Change your goals or add new ones?

Let us know how you're doing!

Another page flipped on the calendar, another month spent in the garden.

I did accept an AmEx invitation to upgrade my BCE to a BCP (wavied first year AF, $150 sub) but no HP for that.

Re: June 2024 Check-In Thread

Found the last three plus months a challenge. Closed some credit cards, payed off an installment loan, went AZEO, opened a new installment loan (debt on loan was 25% of vehicle - small), and reduced a large credit line on my oldest account. Will add, I paid off the residential mortgage several months back.

For science I saw my Fico 8 850 drop down to Fico 8 787. Now enough information has been posted in this Forum for me to know there was going to be a downing in Fico Scores. Shock still set in!

Waiting for an update to the credit bureau so the scores will partially move higher. Did find a move to Fico 8 803. Do know that two hard inquires will drop in June 2024. Also, the new installment loan will post with two payments made on it and one credit card posted so as to end the effects of AZEO. Watching, as I expect another upward bump in the Fico Scores.

As always, patience is an attribute. Some of my creditors report to the credit bureaus information available on the last business day of the month so the good upward move will occur very soon?

Just hanging out in the garden for another month; will likely have an app next month if all goes well.

Re: June 2024 Check-In Thread

Still in the garden. Got a slight bump in my TU Fico 8 to 597 which is nice. EX and EQ are both about 25 points higher. Still waiting to see what happens if/when my student loans update. EQ is showing paid closed and did not seem to take a hit. The myfico simulator says to expect hits to both EX and TU. If it happens I will just open a SSL loan and pay it to 8%. Time to hurry up and wait. Cheers!

Re: June 2024 Check-In Thread

Things are okay!

The good:

I paid off all my charge offs. What a relief. Next month, I'm onto student loans. Slowly but surely...progress. I cannot wait for those balances to all be zero soon.

Tonight, I just sent my first goodwill letters to the chargeoffs on my account, and I disputed a late incorrectly reported that is showing up on Experian. For the goodwill letters, I am using a mailing service, so I figure the next rounds of sending these out will be even easier, with addresses saved, etc. Smiley Happy

The not-so-good:

I made a boo boo today and did an accidental hard pull. It's just going to be what it's going to be. We are imperfect, us humans Smiley Happy I got a little overeager in trying to get "grownup" credit cards without checking to see if those COs were showing as paid, and I thought that BOA was preapproving me. (They weren't!)

I am trying to have faith that once those balances are zero, I'll be able to get one premium-ish Visa and one BCP Amex, and then I will garden and just send a mountain of goodwill letters, while working on my savings as hard as I can so that a mortgage is in my future in the next 1-2 years.

Happy it's summer! Thankful for this board that is teaching me so much.

Re: June 2024 Check-In Thread

Oooh I forgot to note the biggest financial shift for me. I am moving to a smaller place that's 40% cheaper than my current beloved apartment, in order to be able to save more money to buy my own place. I have been looking for the right situation--I'm pretty picky and I wanted it to be worth my while--and I found it this month. It's with roommates who are friends of mine. I have lived alone a long time, and I am honestly pretty nervous about this change, but I am hopeful it will put me in a better position in a year. I'm moving on the first--starting to pack now. Eyes on the prize.

Re: June 2024 Check-In Thread

Hello, it is time for my monthly check in.  My goal, which I set through Chase Credit Journey, is to have a score of 721, using Experian Vantage3, by 5/20/25.  My current score is 702.  Last month it was 688, so I am up 14, which is good news.   (My Experian FICO 8 score is 708, Equifax FICO 9 is 714, and TransUnion FICO 8 is 711. My FICO score are higher because I have some really old closed credit). My current aggregate usage is 38%.  To achieve my goal, I have to lower my credit usage on another card to below 50%, and to pay down the total balance to below $10,400 and bring the aggregate usage to 29%.  I project that I should be able to do this by Sept 30.  So I am not at my goal yet, but I am making good progress.

(By the way, I have some footer information, but I can't edit it until I am no longer considered to be a new member. This would require me to post a few more times).

Gardening since 4/22/25. Cards: PenFed $8750, Synchrony MC $8000, Citi AAdvantage MC $7300, Amazon Chase Visa $5000,Mercury $4900, CareCredit $2500, MissionLane $1600, FirstSavings $2000, US Bank State Farm Visa $1000, CreditOne $1000
My goal cards: AAA Cashback, FirstTech FCU Platinum, FNBO Evergreen, NASA Platinum, Bellco, Alliant
My personal blacklist: CapitalOne, BankOfAmerica, WellsFargo, Discover
Starting Score: 726 (Experian VantageScore3)
Current Score:738
Goal Score: 745 (by 8/1/25)
