As a reminder, participation in these monthly check-ins is optional, just encouraged. The goal is to help keep you on track, so feel free to post your progress updates here. This is a judgment-free zone. Feel free to say what's keeping you up at night or give yourself a Kudo for having it all together.
Did you hit any potholes or speedbumps? Achieve some milestones, either small or mighty? Change your goals or add new ones?
Let us know how you're doing!
Sorry guys for the missing months.. life got me!
Checking in for June. My Experian Vantage3 is at 744, just short of my goal of 745. I should be there already, but I applied for a new card which reduced my average age of account and increased by inquiries to 3. It was a US Bank Visa and I only got a $1000 credit limit. I highly recommend Chase Credit Journey to increase your scores. Other scores: Experian Fico8 754; TransUnion Fico8 765; Equifax Fico8 789. I have come a long ways and I am almost where I want to be.
Welcome back, Kenny! Glad life has settled down, and I hope you're enjoying this late spring.
Welcome back @Kenny!. Thanks for keepng the thread maintained, much appreciated! Life comes first, though.
Checking in for June. Haven't checked in for a while, just been grinding away watching incremental increases month to month.
3.5 years into the rebuild and it's a long road of patience, anticipation, and optimism. No new credit, just a few CLIs. A few closed accounts due to inactivity. A few disputes. One 30 day late in October. EX and EQ dancing around low 700s. It'll be 9 months before I'm solidly in the low 700s.
This month is a huge pay down month. Dropped 13k on all ccs. Planning to drop another 6k before next months reporting. So I'm really curious what will happen with my scores next month. Looking forward to checking in on July.
Welcome back, Kenny! Thanks for bringing back the monthly check-in thread.
As for my June update, my EX8 dipped from 747 to 744 this month due to high (10%) utilization on my BILT card, which I'll make sure to take care of before the month ends. My EQ8 and TU8 haven't moved from 761 and 764, but we'll see if the higher than usual balance knocks a few points off of those scores in the coming days.
In other news, I'm angling for the US Bank Cash+ and am hoping I can sneak in an approval with only 3 or 4 months of history on my BILT. We'll see. The 5% on utilities and internet would be incredibly useful, but I've also heard US Bank can be really conservative with approvals, especially for people with less than 3 years of credit.
See you all in July!
Welcome back @Kenny. Sorry life happened to you but glad you're on the other side of it.
For my check-in, I'm still playing the "game" of credit. Keeping utilization low when/where it makes sense. I think I'm going to close my HiltonHonors (HH) card that I opened a year ago. It's redundant to the HiltonHonors Surpass card with lesser benefits. I only opened it to upgrade my Vacation Club membership and it had 0% for a year. Now that the balance is $0, there is no need for the card.
Not currently looking to open anything new, however, my trigger finger is getting a little bit itchy for the AmEx BCP. Might just do that after I close the HH card.
Rant begins: Part of this game is dealing with, slow as molasses to report balances, TU. I have a card that the statement closed on the 24th and reported the next day. On the 26th, EX had it reported. A day or two later, EQ reported it. TU, as of this morning still has not reported. All my AmEx cards close statements on the 29th of each month. EX report the updates the next day. EQ reported on June 3. It took TU until June 10 to report. I know this happens from time to time with all CRAs but this is just ridiculous. This happens every month with TU. Rant ends.
