Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge 2014!

Hello everyone, I'm so excited to be in the garden for the second month.  On November 7th I paid off all of my smaller store cards.  I am working on paying down my other credit cards.  My credit scores are definitely on the move.  I'm excited about reaching the 700 club.  I plan to be there before May 2015.  I'm doing the homework on how to raise my scores and I'm never late and in fact, most of the time I pay my credit cards 2 to 3 times per month, that way I know that I will never miss a payment.  I strongly believe that you must have really good habits in order to reach your goals in the credit game!

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge 2014!

Hello All!

I'm officially joining this challenge late into the year after a terrible start to 2014. I knew I was at a low point after many mishaps/lows throughout 2013. I foolishly took out Payday loans from several lenders and found myself in a bind unable to pay back their debt and continue paying on my normal accounts.  I incurred 30, 60, 90, and even 120 days past due on several accounts (both revolving and installment) and continued to pay faithfully on some accounts. I have 6 student loans through Nelnet and know the hit of 120 days past due did a number on my score.

Long story short, I checked my score late last year and signed up for Score Watch in Jan/2014. At my all time low (that I know of), I hit a whopping low score of 423 (EQ) in Jan/2014. Filled with dissapointment, I made the commitment to just simply make sure I continue to make every payment on time and do my best. I settled what I could from the Payday loans and began arrangements with my other lenders. Some damage was irreversible as several accounts were closed by credit grantor and several items are reported in Collections.

This month, after paying off several accounts and consistently paying on time with all lenders, I pulled my report and found my scores had signicantly improved. They are still much LOWER than I'd like them to be but I'm moving up.

Starting Score: EQ 423 (Jan/14)
Current Score: EQ 607 TU 616 EX 614 (Nov/14)
Goal Score: 650+ (Dec/14) ; 700+ (2015)

My plan of attack:

1. Clean up collections

2. Continue paying off revolving accounts (lower utilization to <10%). 3/6 accounts are reporting as open. Possibly request CLI once scores are higher.

3. Request Goodwill's wherever possible. I've made many phonecalls and sent several letters this month. I have SOME hope based on my conversations with several accounts. I'll be eying my scores over the next month!

4. Begin paying more against my student loans once I have lowered utilzation to <10%.

5. Once my score is higher, I will potentially open 1-2 revolving accounts or increase CLI on my current accounts.

6. Continue paying faithfully. :-)

Lurking on the side lines and decided to join the FICO Challenge for 2014 family. Working on limiting spending, new card apps and aging my accounts. Also, I need to lower my utilization so my scores will increase. So far only one new card in 2014 but spending reduction is slow.

Nope.  Start now and check in every month.  Your challenge/goal doesn't have to end December.
