Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge 2020!

Just started really paying attention to my credit profile.  After getting laid off 3 times in 6 years starting in 2003, my credit profile was "unfavorable".  I lived a cash existence with my debit card until 2016 when I felt like I needed to - and it was time to - get back to a more "normal" life.  I made progress such that after once again getting laid off in Nov 2019, I didn't feel any pain financially until I got my current job.  Now things are really looking up - so is my credit score.

I'm working to 750 TU (TU is in my signature) and then I will work toward 800.

I hope to learn and contribute ... thank you.

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge 2020!

I wrote a long post here earlier. My autobiography, I guess. I think I managed to delete it while trying to edit. Oops.

FICO 8
Eq 680, TU 713, Ex 718

Back in 2004 when I was trying to buy a new pickup, my score was hideous, 450 IIRC. Had to put it in my mom's name to get the loan.

Anyway, I've rebuilt a little.
Had some unexpected expenses I had to put on credit cards earlier this year; $1K for dental work and $4K for a new transmission in that '04 pickup. I don't have a lot of cards or very high limits, so utilization got ugly.

Cabela's Capital One Mastercard - since Oct 2015 (used to be some other bank)

Capital One Quicksilver - since Nov 2015 (just upgraded from Platinum)

Eddie Bauer (Comenity Bank) - since May 2016

Pentagon Federal Gold Visa - since Jun 2016 (used to be a National Rifle Assoc. card through some other bank)

Kay Jewelers (Genesis FS) - since Nov 2017 (one of those cards I got talked in to at the sales counter and is now my highest CL)

Discover it Cash Back - since Dec 2020 (new card, yay me)

I've pushed hard to get my utilization down below 30% after my financial setbacks of earlier this year. Now getting close to 20%. Hoping to get under 10% in the not-so-distant future.
Sep statements 37.3%

Oct statements 34.0%

Nov statements 28.5%

Dec statements 25.7% (with a CL boost of $2K from the new Disco, though my CC debt was actually up $92 from previous month)

right this minute 21.8%

Trying to improve my score because I'm shopping for a used Corvette and planning to finance $30-something-K.

You're doing good, keep it up and one day you'll have that Corvette.  Improving your scores will get you into that Corvette with a much better rate, if not the perfect rate, later you can go through a CU.  It's all about climbing rungs on the credit ladder. Most of us have been where you are now.  It's surprising how your credit journey "seems" long and far off to get to where you wanna be, but it happens and then it's like it was all a dream. One day you'll open your eyes and your credit is good, your ride is sweet, and your plans are solid.  Kutgw!Smiley Wink
