Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

I've been non-actively/somewhat actively rebuilding my credit score after it took a dive after I lost my job and my not paying my bills on time. I currently have no credit card on my own now and relatively no debt other than my student loan. I've build up some savings but was still rejected for a credit card application after 2+ years. I guess I need to take on a more active role in rebuilding my credit score. Is it over ambitous to want a goal of 780 by end of 2013?

Depends on where you are coming from and what's reporting already. When I started on here I had FICOs in the low to mid 500s. Within 3 months they were in the mid-600s. By a year they were poking at 700, but what held them back were the new accounts I continually added. I stopped applying for credit and inside of 3 years of starting, my EQ FICO hit 777. The only thing stopping it from going further was time since my average history length was only 3 yrs.

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

I had a rough few yearsand am just now starting to get any traction on credit repair.

In 2012 I will be working toward raising my FICO above 700 by: (1) keeping utilization on credit cards below 10%, (2) paying credi cards over the year, (3) keeping to a budget, and (4) getting at least one collection off my report.

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

I am new to the forum.  My FICO is in the 400's, due to a reduction in pay that began in 2008 and has lingered into present times (I work for State Government).  I recently married and my wife has very decent credit (700+).  I am fortunate enough to own my own home.  My wife and I have discussed refinancing the house and pulling equity out in order to pay off car notes, student loans, credit cards and other misc. debts we both separately brought into the marriage.  This would involve placing the house in her name, removing me from the loan all together, although title would be vested in both of our names.  This move would allow us to go from a 30 year fixed mortgage into a 15 year fixed mortgage, and by taking advantage of the low interest rates, would allow us to keep the house payment at or just slightly higher than what we are paying currently.

My personal financial goals are to begin to have a rainy day fund set up for us.  I would also like to begin contributing to an educational savings account for future children's college.  I would also like to get involved in real estate investing, as a way to pad my monthly income and to accommodate my savings goals.  Unfortunately, with a low FICO, the real estate investing poses quite a challenge for me, which is why I joined this forum.  I would like tips from the experts, as how to best accomplish my goals.

A FICO score, based on a TransUnion credit report, provided to Walmart credit card owners.

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

Hi MyFico family!

I have been a member of MyFico for some years, but just kind of coasted through life thinking (wrongly) that all of my issues would just disappear without any real work. I have no kids, no mortgage, and no student loan debt.  Literally I have old student loans that are under $1700.00.   Now I have hit what I consider a wall:

I am currently unemployed

Trying to go back to school

Need an apartment

Ugh, it's all happening at once, and I am focusing on keeping myself above water.  To make it even more silly, my debt over all hovers at about $8,000, so it's obvious that I have just been stabbing myself in the foot.  I feel silly even writing this because I know there are others who have more hurdles than me.  I have just been lazy, and selfish.   I currently have an EQ= 528 and EX= 498 TU= Unknown.  My goal is to get all of those up to 700 by the end of 2013.  I will be getting my TU score this weekend.

I have started to make small strides, which give me some hope.  I have stopped over extending myself and having accounts closed due to high balances with no payments (yes I have been that irresponsible).   I have opened 2 secured credit cards one with $200 limit and another with my bank for $500 limit.  I have paid off my last car loan, and looking at my current FICO score simulator, I MUST focus on paying my bills ON TIME.

I hae several dings on my credit due to parking tickets which I will be getting rid of one at a time as they are $50-55 a piece.  I have set up a payment plan for my student loans and gotten that out of default.

I am hopeful that I will be able to get an apartment, but I do have a friend who is willing to let me stay with her while I find one.  I believe I found one that will work with people with bad credit, and if a year lease in a so-so apartment will help with my credit score and rental history, I am willing to take it.

Here are my plans for the coming year:

-Pay off or make payment arrangements for all outstanding creditors on CR.

-Pay ALL my bills on time.

-Establish positive rental history.

-Monitor my CR and CS for ways to improve, and keep off incorrect info.

-Push my CS to 700 for all 3 CB's or get as close as possible.

I know that I am posting this rather late, and i will probably need to post again in a few days when it is 2013, but I saw this and have learned that procrastination has been my biggest downfall when it comes to my credit, so here I am.  If anyone has any ideas on ways I can get this done I would appreciate the feedback.  However, I have done my research into companies that say they will fix your credit, so please no solicitations for that.

Thank you!!!

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

Hi everyone!  I just found this myfico.com and have been working on my credit for the past two years or so.  I began my journey with a 538 FICO and worked on it on my own, payed off my debts that had gone to collections and about 6 months ago I had brought my score to a 650.  Well almost immediately after my wife mistakenly missed a payment on my Gas Card, my fault though because I should have been checking, but my score fell again to a 589.  Well I decided to seek help with a credit repair specialist at Tucceri & Associates in Riverside, CA.  She went to work on my account about 3 or 4 months ago and now I'm sitting at a 678 FICO.  Pretty happy about it!

I've had the small limit cards for approx. the last year or two to help rebuild my credit and have kept up on my payments.  I have zero balances on my Capital One Card and Orchard Bank card, but have about $400 balance on my other Capital one.  Both Capital One Cards are a $750 limit and $800 limit and my Orchard Bank is a $500 limit.

Great news is today I was appoved for a $6000 credit limit on a Discover Card and also was approved for a Macy's and Lowe's card.  Not getting these to spend money on them, but I know that I need some reputable cards with higher limits on my credit to help increase my score!  Feel's pretty good to see these results from responsible credit care and bettering my spending habits...

I'm on a path to reach my goal of a 750 FICO by the end of 2013.  I have a 5 year old son and a wife I married a year ago and my son and her have really made me realize how important these things are!  It's a journey and I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

That's my story!
