Re: Take the FICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

Started to rebuild credit score in 2010 but was focused on rebounding from near financial meltdown due to severe income loss.  Everything fine now.  Starting scores were from 2010 and I was able to get a few baddies off back then.  Now focusing on obtaining a few cards to increase score and sent a GW to DTE to remove 2 lates from early 2011 (yes, the electric/gas company).  Other than that, love the site.

Re: Take the FICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

I decided to join the forum in my quest to improve my credit score. I had a number of late payments this year, due to some financial difficulties. My official myFICO credit score is 531. Now I'm back on track, and trying to improve it into at least the mid 700s. Hopefully the wise folks on this forum can provide assistance where necessary.

Starting Score: 531 (11-5-2012; MyFICO)

Re: Take the FICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

Having spent 20 years in the motorcycle industry, my income took a cliff dive in 2008 when the economy slid, kept the credit score above average, but had to carry some debt to stay afloat, but now we have a baby on the way so all attention is focused on paying everything down/off and prepping for the big event in March.....

Re: Take the FICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

In 2007 I settled my credit card debt. I did not understand how settling your credit account wrecks havoc on your life for years. I n two years my settled accounts will be removed from my credit file. I expect my credit score to jump at that time, so I want to make sure I don' t mess things up. Joining the FICchallenge will help me not stop seeking more credit even though I do need it. I have spent so many years with bad credit it feels good to be approved.

Starting Score: Equifax 499 (1/22/2020); TransUnion 525 (1/22/2020); Experian 523 (1/24/2020)

Re: Take the FICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

Hello everyone:

I'm a newbie with the hopes of being a first time homebuyer in 2013!!!  I have identified a place that is definitely a bargain and I'm hoping to sign on the dotted line at some time before September 2013.  Any advice you have for me would be greatly appreciated!!

Okay. so as you can see my credit score is shot ...

I lost my job three times in three years resulting in my very dismal score.

Prior to losing the first job in 2006, I started working on a masters degree.  Currently, I owe about $60,000 in student loans.   I have 3 liens placed on my credit report from various credit cards and I am currently getting my paycheck garnished.  Total amount owed is $9,000.

I also have private loans that I have defaulted on totalling $30,000.

I have about 6 credit cards in good standing.  In total I have about $1500 in outstanding credit card debt whcih I am looking to pay off by the close of the year.

If tere is anything that you might suggest I do to better my FICO score and clean up my credit mess, that would be truly appreciated.

thank you

Re: Take the FICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

Hi all,

My starting credit score which I recorded back in Aug 2009 was 587.  As of 2012, I have actively worked on cleaning up my score and as of today it stands at 710.  I only have 1 derogatory mention on my report which is a student loan from Sallie Mae where back in 2006 there were a few months where I was 180 days late in paying.  Since that time, I have been current paying more than the minimum and expect to pay it off entirely by the end of 2013.

I've been reading about some individual's success with getting a goodwill adjustment, so I will try that myself over the next few months.  My major purchase goals are to buy a new car by mid-December and then obtain a mortgage refinance in early 2013.

Re: Take the FICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

Happy November!

I am brand spanking new to this website and forum. I found it while searching for information to increase my credit scores and I haven't been able to log off! So cool!  I had a bad history with credit but my divorce forced me to get my act together.  I have managed to get my own car (no cosigner but high interest rate) and am in the process of building a house. My income is high but my credit has sucked in the past. In a short time (to me) I have been able to get it in the 600s. My high score is 669 and low 627. My middle score, the one I need for the FHA mortgage is 635 and needs to be 640.

My goals are to:

1. Increase credit score to 720.

2. Refinance my auto load.

3. Get the mortgage for the house!

4. Get a SWA credit card (I fly them a lot and would love to earn miles from purchases).

I am optimistic after reading all of the stories here! What a wonderful place!

Re: Take the FICO Fitness Challenge for 2012!

Hi, I applied for a mortgage in April 2012 to buy the house I grew up in. Of course, with scores in the 500's, I was denied. So I started my rebuilding journey. Here's what I have currently:

Auto loan 3/2011 - $10,500 --> $4800

Capital One secured Mastercard 5/2012 - $300

Fingerhut 7/2012 - $250 --> $650

Citibank secured loan 8/2012 - $500 --> $430

SDFCU secured Visa 10/2012 - $500

Target Red Card 11/2012 - $200

Walmart Credit Card 11/2012 - $600

JC Penney Credit Card 11/2012 - $150

I did apply for an additional Capital One card, Victoria's Secret, and TJX. I know I'm in an application frenzy right now, but my goal is to buy a house in 2 years and I want to get the hard inquiries out of the way before then. Smiley Happy

I have 2 unpaid public records (medical), numerous collection accounts (10+) most of which are medical, and numerous inquiries. Public records fall off in 2017 and 6 collection accounts fall of by end of next summer. All my currently open accounts are paid 100% on time. I pay my cards in full each month.

Goal for 2013: No more credit applications. Continue to pay on time.

Goal for 2014: HOMEOWNER!

Starting Scores: (4/16/12 lender pull) TU 596 | EX 550 | EQ 576
Current Score (9/3/15): Wally TU 639 | Amex EX 628 | DCU EQ 639
Goals: Homeowner as of 9/27/2013. Last app 8/1/15. TU-5; EX-16; EQ-13. Aiming for ZERO inqs.
