I want to completely rebuild my credit and finally be a responsible adult The goal is to buy a new truck by the end of the year. In the mean time I would like to add a prime credit card to my name. All this should help us refinance our house next year and finally add me to the loan.
@AntonioDevon wrote:My name is Antonio and I have been going up in down in my fico scores for almost a year now. I am 25 and like most I made credit mistakes in college which I am now paying for! I currently work and can start paying off these accounts but I want to do it the best way possible. I went up to a 630 fico score but then back down to this 598 due to high balance on my secured credit card for some time now. I have students loans totaling 145+, a 120+ and a 90+ day late (which I have sent letters to both Sallie Mae and Direct Loans to try to get removed to no avail), 4 accounts in collections for years now. I just need to know where to start to get my credit score up. I just want to be able to get a decent credit card with rewards. I will pay off my secured card this month and leave it with a low balance. Should I start paying off the collection accounts? Do I work out a payment plan with them? I paid off a few accounts already I use to have 7. What will help me to get my credit up quickest? I want to get a venture card and a loan for a car with the best interest rates by the end of this year! Any advice would be appreciated!
Welcome! Definitely check out the Rebuilding Your Credit board within these forums. There's a wealth of info in there on steps you can take to pay back debts and have a nice FICO score and credit gain in the process, including steps you can take to get rid of any paid accounts you have already.
Recap from 2012:
Removed a couple of Baddies from my report
Raised score from 499-564
Goal for 2013:
Would like to obtain a morgage for first time
Remove medical collections
Remove IRS tax liens that were satisfied a couple of years ago
Pay off car- $7000 remaining
Go from 564- 700 this year
From the limits you can see in my signature, I don't have any primary goals of increasing credit lines by much more, maybe get the NFCU card up to 50k which is the max for that card. However, I would like to pay off my auto loan from NFCU as quick as I can. I have $11,700 left on the note @ 3.49%.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Macy's card grow a little more. Its my only card in the 4 digit range.
YAY! Slowly rebuilding. Every one of these Score Watch emails I get makes me so happy!
Your FICO® score has gone up to 601 on March 2, 2013. |
Thanks for taking the time to read this post, Well I just turn 26 a few days ago and is really in the process of wanting to purchase a condo by Aug or sept of 2013, I really want to take the fico challenge because I feel as I can improve my fico score more before I even apply for a loan. At this present time I am saving and is trying to come up with at least $15000 before I completely ready to put a down payment down...Im ready for the challenge...lol
I want this year to be my year! I started finally getting back up on my feet and confronted my IRS debt. I've been making payments since last fall and just realized that instead of having my employer deduct it from my check, I should have it taken by auto debit directly from the IRS as I now understand that after 3 consecutive payments there is the chance to have it removed. I need to look further into this; that would be awesome. I'm not sure how difficult this would be but it's worth a shot. I was told by an IRS rep that after 3 debits I can have this removed whether or not it's paid in full. After reading other's experiences, it's not always the case?
I received a huge bonus from my employer last month which I used to pay all payday loans, and paid down most of my small cards, and half of my big bank card. I'm on track. I want to continue paying down any further debt and have zero late/missed payments. I want to raise my score to the mid 600's over tyhe next few months while my c/c down goes down to zero utilization - possible high 600's by end of summer? We'll see what's possible...
What's the best site to use to keep up on monthly scrores & reports? Are we forced into paying $15-$20 per credit bureau (total 50-60 per shot or per month)? That's what I'm finding out. Even myFico only gives me one score.
Score bumped up another 19pts to 696 today.. I was expecting just a few points, but I'll take it!
What bumped you those expected points that much?
I don't know why it jumped that much.. I was expecting a couple points by reducing my revolving utilization by a few %..
Must have hit a special threshold..
