Re: 13 % of us are 800+

I think the more important number is that the vast majority of us (58% of Fai Isaac's profiles) are at 700 - 800+... This is where EVERYONE needs to be in order to take the wind out of the sub-prime lending market - and right size the social and economic classes. Smiley Very Happy

Re: 13 % of us are 800+

13% of those eligible.  I would guess 80% of the population have credit scores, or about 240 million.  So it would be about 32 million souls

Without the use of the sore stimulator, I predict I will get there by 2009.  And I was born far from the on deck circle, and it will be hard work and playing the game   Smiley Very Happy

Re: 13 % of us are 800+

13% of U.S. pop has a score over 800.  Seems a little high to me.  Do you think a majority of them are up in age say 62 and above.  If I ask everyone I know if they have scores above 800 (I am not asking what their scores are, only if they are above 800), I would be lucky to find one.  Maybe asking this way would net truthful answers.  I think if there is one "in my circle" I would know bc they would constantly be bragging and hopefully helping the rest of "the circle" improve are scores.Smiley Wink  Just like what we do on this forum.

Re: 13 % of us are 800+

I think everyone has made a mistake thinking that FICO rates the entire population... It is not as if the entire population has a credit profile...

May 17, 2007 - (San Francisco, California, USA) - Fair Isaac Corporation (NYSE:FIC) today announced from its InterACT 07 conference that U.S. businesses have now used more than 100 billion FICO  credit scores to make smart decisions about their customers and prospects.  Also today, Fair Isaac announced that its researchers have added key innovations to the Classic FICO  credit risk scoring model that will significantly enhance its predictive power, without changing important features such as the score range of 300-850 .

First introduced in 1989, the company's FICO score has gained widespread acceptance as the industry-standard measure of consumer credit risk, enabling lenders to objectively and fairly extend financial opportunities to millions.

Based on the latest press release, 100 billion FICO scores have been requested and lenders have made decision based on those 100 billion reports for millions of Americans and Canadians.Smiley Wink So I can't imagine that there are profiles for the entire population of the US.

Population: 301,139,947 (July 2007 est.)

Age structure: 0-14 years: 20.2% (male 31,152,050/female 29,777,438)
                       15-64 years: 67.2% (male 100,995,752/female 101,365,035)
                       65 years and over: 12.6% (male 15,858,477/female 21,991,195) (2007 est.)

There may only be 50 million profiles and that means there may only be 7.5 million profiles with 800+ scores... It's a much smaller pool of Americans than everyone thinks.

IMHO - Most people would not likely share their FICO with anyone... Even if they knew it. I sure wouldn't except here on the myFICO boards.Smiley Very Happy

Re: 13 % of us are 800+

Now someone needs to change all those ubiquitous FICO charts that accompany every article about credit, showing the 800 score sitting at the 91% point (indicating only 9% of scores exceed that level).

And I bet the increase from 9% to 13% is all due to AUs. Smiley Happy
