Was alerted today and saw EQ score dropped 74pts due to "missed or unknown" payment made on Cap1 card. The balance reported is exactly $40. I contacted Cap1 and was told there was a $15 late fee charged from last month. I told the rep that I was unaware that I had paid late nor was I notofied on my statement(s). I always make my payment 4 days before the due date and before the statement date. The rep told me that I didn't make the minimum payment last month......which was $36.......I paid $30. I also made 2 payments this month totaling $74.89, hence the $40 balance reported to EQ. I ended the chat session with the rep, waited about and hour, then logged back on to Cap1. I chatted with another rep and explained my situation. After checking my account, the rep informed me that they would waive the late charge on t and I would receive a credit on the account within 2 days or by the next statement. My question........when will I get these 74pts back?
You'd want them to remove the late too. Some creditors will be open to reversing the late fee, but not the late mark. Definitely GW them.
Will not come back-up until they remove the 30-day late from your CRs
There is no 30-day being reported on my reports. The alert from myFico stated that the score decrease was due to a "missed payment or date of most recent payment unknown." The rep also informed me that Cap1 not only reports 30-day lates but also if the minimum payment isn't made. Apparently I made a payment of $30 instead of the minimum of $36 back in June.
If you don't make the minimum it would be considered late.
Have you checked your report directly from the CRA?
If there is no late payment on the credit report, how did score watch know that there was a late payment. Did the account status change? There has to be something there.
Admittedly I recently got hit with a 30-day late. I pulled my reports and no late reported but the status changed to "currently 30 days past due" or something like that with a very large score drop, similar to OP's. I paid it and the next reported date the comment changed to "was 30 days past due" or similar and my FICO increased. It increased because it was no longer past due but they did add a 30-day that following month. This could be the same situation is going through. I bet a 30-day will appear next reported date with a FICO bump.
OP, yes, if you pay less than 100% owed, then they can add a late. This is why you see folks post in here with complaints after paying a CC or loan on a payment plan. Even if you pay 100% on time, it's less than the org. amount owed and they'll add a late anyway.
I hope that this is the case in my situation as well. The late fee hais been waived per my conversation with the Cap1 rep. My balance as of this moment is $74 , which I plan to pay in full next week so I will have a $0 balance before the statement date.
Just a tip, set your accounts online to make automatic minimum payment by the due date so this doesn't happen again. A simple oversight can hurt your score and haunt you for years.
