EX has a 4% aggregate utilization threshold (0,4]

Back in February, my EX 8 score went down 3pts when the only change reported at that point was a 1% to 7% aggregate utilization change.

I just got those points back moving from 9% to 4% aggregate utilization.

[EDIT: May 2020 - It turns out that with EX 8 only, all cards have to be ≤ 4.0% utilization!  Proof here.]

All data from Experian CreditWorks daily reports.

On the 1st of this month, no statement balances had been reported from either of my 2 cards. (Only 2 accounts open on my file.)

These score changes were due to aging - AoYA 5mo to 6mo.

Then my first card reported a change in utilization from 9% to 4%. Aggregate utilization changed to 8%, and there were no score changes.

The second card reported the change from 9% to 4%, and this took aggregate utilization from 8% to 4%, resulting in the score changes below:

(I previously tested a 6% to 5% aggregate utilization change with no changes at EX on any score.)

Re: EX has a 4% aggregate utilization threshold (0,4]

I would have to say that your result here is profile specific, as many people (myself included) have crossed over 4% aggregate many times and have not seen EX (or any) score fluctuations.  I'm lucky to go over 4% aggregate once a year now, but did plenty of testing back before my limits grew.

Re: EX has a 4% aggregate utilization threshold (0,4]

I went from 2% aggregate to 7%, one point loss on EX and TU, no change on EQ.

Only one card with balance, individual utilization changed from 8% to 25%.

Very cool CassieCard. I’m going to have to test it on my scorecard. To be clear, you are on a “clean/non-aged/thin/new account” scorecard. I wonder what all scorecards it exists upon?

BBS what scorecard were you on when you confirmed it did not exist?

Remedios Do you know which scorecard you’re on? Obviously we don’t know where the aged line is exactly or the exact thick/thin line, assuming New accounts segments at 12 months?
For a collection of our current FICO scoring wisdom, updated as we learn, read the following. Watch the revision dates on the bottom of the first 8 posts as they are regularly updated: Link to Scoring Primer.

RIP:

Oldest/average age varies by bureau. Estimates above.

Updated Oct 2020, unless otherwise noted.

(Forgive typos, mobile.)(Everything said is Just IMHO.)

In order to better answer your questions and record your DPs, please provide your profile stats: Any baddies? Severity and recency? (clean/dirty), Number of accounts, both open and closed on CRs (thick/thin), AoOA? (Mature/young), AOYRA-Age of Youngest Revolving Account (new accounts/no new accounts)? Open/closed loan on CR?
For example, mine is clean/thick/mature/new account, with open loan on record.
If you don't know where you fall, just detail any baddies, your number of open and closed accounts, AoOA, AOYRA and whether you have a loan on record to start.

For utilization questions, list individual and aggregate utilizations, revolving and installment, please.

I'm fairly certain that I've crossed that range (say) 4% or 5% both when I was dirty and when I was clean.  When I was dirty I had 4 revolvers and lower limits, so going across those percentages happened rather frequently.  When I was at 8 revolvers (clean by that time) I don't recall ever seeing any score shift for crossing those lower percentages either.

I trust your observations. There's not a lot of data from this end of the aging spectrum, so I'm sure much of what I post is going to be a surprise to many.

Things like:

  • Getting a EQ 750 in 12 months with just 1 account on file - an SSL that aged to 12 months/8.47%
  • A 20 point hit for an inquiry at EQ.
  • A 19 point hit for an inquiry at EX. (Citi double-pulled EX/EQ)
  • EX 8 +23 points at AoYA 3 months

27 FICO Scores + 3 VS3. MTG (Mortgage), AUT (Auto), and BKC (Bankcard) are scores 5,4, and 2 from the top.

In my profile I frequently see changes in my FICO 8 scores when there are whole number changes in my aggregate revolving utilization. I would go crazy if I tried to monitor which, if any, are thresholds. I just know that between 1% and 9% there probably lie about 15-20 points in FICO 8, as far as my profile is concerned.
