Data is as good as I can get, had score confirmation that both FICO 8 and FICO 5 hadn't changed from the first datapoint as of end of last month July so this is probably very solid.

The tax lien was the last bit of serious dirtiness on my report, so I'm now in a clean bucket.  Interestingly the reason codes between FICO 8 and FICO 5 are identical now, which is really strange as only FICO 9 is now complaining about installment utilization even though we know absolutely that it counts on clean FICO 8 files.  Ergo it's not in my top 4, if I didn't have the CFA though maybe it'd be on there.

Also CFA's, both FICO 5 and FICO 8; but NOT on FICO 9.

Hard to say, datapoints around FICO 9 are so rare and the reason codes are pretty generic for clean files on my industry options.... and I'm more than a little disappointed that I don't get reason codes on FICO 9 Classic, ah well one less reason to pull the reports from here I guess.

Tangent, but have you seen a cutoff for industry option reason codes like we see in the base FICO 8 / FICO 9 for people with high scores?

Yes and No.  On industry options MyFico 3B reports stop listing reason statements when score is 850 or above. Their rule regardless of model is: If score is within 50 points of the model upper limit, then no reason statements. Just to clarify further I'm not talking real world maximums, I'm referring to the upper limit reported for the model range (i.e 900 for Industry Enhanced and 850 for Classic).

With my AT&T Universal Card (Citi) I get an EQ Fico 8 Bankcard score. That source does not discontinue listing reason statements - It still provided two reasons statements at a score of 892. For me, the monthly summaries have always listed the same two reasons regardless of monthly activity/score.

1 scoreable inquiry.

AAOA 42 months, aka 3.5 years.

Consumer Finance Account on file

AOYA, which is now listed as a problem in reason codes, 7 months ago so apparently no six months seasoning boundary.

Installment utilization 90%, is still listed on FICO 9 as a problem but not anywhere else.

So do you think your FIco 8s are lower than Fico 9s due primarily to the CFAs? SJ has higher Fico 9s as well but no CFA. My Fico 9 enhanced scores almost always lag Fico 8 enhanced by a significant margin. Never figured out exactly why - but I do know some Fico 9 enhanced scores top out under 900.

True that (a) I have no CFA's and (b) my FICO 9's are higher than my FICO 8's.

Re: Equifax: tax lien removal, score changes, notes

SJ,Thanks for sharing your data.

Your EX Fico 98 bankcard is shockingly low compared to your other Fico Bankcard scores. That's a rather strong indication that inquiries have substantial weight with that model AND that INQ bins likely continue beyond an INQ count of 9. Of course, the drop could relate to # of new accounts but, that should impact all CRAs in the same way. This supports the hypothesis that the older Fico 98 Bankcard model weighs inquiries rather heavily and that it has a high plateau for saturation.

Regarding Bankcard Fico 8 vs Fico 9, your data is a mixed bag as you say. Really nothing definite there. However, I do believe EQ does tweak Fico models (to the extent allowed) to add weight to # cards reporting balances - much more so than TU and EX. With Fico 9 such customization has been purposefully constrained by the model's core algorithm. Thus, the reduction in impact and your higher EQ F9 scores across the Classic, Auto and Bankcard models. What I find puzzling with your Experian data: Auto F9 score is 20 points higher than Auto F8 but, Bankcard F9 score is 10 points lower than its F8 counterpart.

As advertised Fico 9 has reigned in CRA customization - that is evident in the spread of your three CRA F9 scores compared to the same three F8 scores. Pasted below is data I have for spread on F9 and F8 for Bankcard scores.

P.S. All three CRA reports for the above are basically the same - Same # of open and closed accounts, Clean files with no lates and no inquiries on any of the CRAs.

Agreed. That seems to be the case.

In general it seems the older models penalize new inquiries & accounts more than the newer models do.

Interesting, I'm going to feedback that to my contacts at myFICO as product feedback, if the reason codes are coming from the bureaus they should be posted regardless of how relevant they may or may not be at the upper eschelons of scoring.

Thanks senor!

Re: Equifax: tax lien removal, score changes, notes

I just had my Equifax score jump from from 707 --> 762  on the Fico8, after it appears they dropped my Paid Federal Tax Lien that was filed May 2012 yesterday.  Fingers crossed the other bureaus drop it as well.  Any idea on why/when tax liens are removed from the file?

Most likely National Consumer Assistance Plan (NCAP): if it doesn't have your full and correct details to make certain it is matched with the correct file, it is deleted.

Congratulations!
